This paper belongs to the subject of the tudy of Gao You? Gao You sentence annotation on U Shi Chun Qiu?is the object of its study. This paper, which specifies critical interpretation of ancient texts aims at the exploratory study of the sentence interpretation of U Shi Chun Qiu?by summing up the type of its study and the connotation of its terminology through the analysis of its materials of annotation.It includes three parts. The first part of this paper is the introduction. It provides a general survey about the present study of the subject. It mainly includes a brief account of the range of its study. It also relates to the method of operation, which are the qualitative analysis and the quantitative analysis.The second part deals with the type of the sentence annotation which includes three types. 1. Direct Annotation. It refers to the translation which based on the original meaning. It includes three types: Word-for-word translation, free translation and enlarged translation. 2.Indirect Annotation. It refers to the indirect explanation of the original text through the method of pointing out the emphasis and analysing the meaning of it and the mutural proof between classies. 3.Synthetical Annotation. It is a comprehensive application of the direct and indirect annotation which includes the combination of translation and explaination and the combination of quotation and translation.The third part mainly discusses the character of Annotation. The terms which frequently used in Gao Annotation are the following: u Yue??. i Zhi Wei? They mainly applied in indirect annotation. These terms belong to the inductive expressions.They are different in usages: u Yuend ure mainly applied in explaining sentences or elucidating the original meaning. an?is an inductive term which often used in quotation and translation. This paper also exemplifies several other terms, which have the same meaning with the former, such as ei?which has the same usage with an? u Yan?u Wei ?and u Wei Zhi?are all have the same meaning with undu Yue? i Zhi Leind i Li Zhi Weire have the same meaning withi Zhi Wei?An evaluation about Gao's Annotation on "LIs Shi Chun Qiu"is reached in thelast.
