Objective:To study the correlation of rhinovirus infection and the morbidity of asthma with children. Methods:Sixty asthmatic children aged from 5 to 15 were selected to the experimental group including 30 cases in asthma actue exacerbation(asthma group) and 30 cases in asthma clinical remission(remission group). Thirty normal children aged from 5 to 15 who had not used glucocorticosteroid and immunomodulator in the last 6 month were assigned to the control group without allergic disease and parasitic infection .the RV gene in nasopharyngeal secretion of asthmatic and normal children was detected by RT-PCR. The total serum IgE(T-IgE) was determined by chemiluminescence. The Eosinophil(EOS) count of peripheral blood and lung function(FEV1%pre) were also measured.Result:(1)the rhinovirus infection rate of asthma was 36.67% in asthma group and 3.33% in remission group. None rhinovirus was detected in control group. The rate of rhinovirus infections in asthma group was remarkable different from remission group and the control group(P﹤0.01). There was no difference in rhinovirus infection rate between the remission group with the control group(P>0.05).(2)FEV1%pre of asthma children in asthma group was (62.73±13.54)% with rhinovirus infection and (86.42±17.78)% with no rhinovirus infection. There was remarkable different between the two groups(P﹤0.01).(3) the total IgE was (836.32±44.801)IU/ml and E0S% was (10.63±4.09)% in asthma group with rhinovirus infection . the total IgE is (439.10±231.28)IU/ml and E0S% is (5.04±2.64)% in asthma group with no rhinovirus infection .There was difference between the two groups(P﹤0.01). But the total IgE and E0S%in asthma group with rhinovirus infection had no correlation(rs=0.364,P>0.05).(4)the total IgE was (584.74±374.59)IU/ml and E0S% was (7.09±4.19)% in asthma group. The total IgE was (316.90±163.88)IU/ml and E0S% was (4.45±1.53)% in remission group. The total IgE was (150.23±81.83)IU/ml and E0S% was (2.47±0.90)% in control group. The total IgE and E0S% in asthma group was remarkable different from the remission group and the control group(P﹤0.05). There was difference between the remission group with the control group(P<0.01). The total IgE and E0S%had positive correlation in asthma group and in remission group. ( rs =0.763, rs=0.607,P<0.01).Conclusions:(1)The rhinovirus infection rate of the asthma actue exacerbation was higher than the asthma clinical remission, which suggested that there was a close correlation between rhinovirus infection and acute attack of asthma in children.(2)FEV1%pre of the asthma children in acute exacerbation with rhinovirus infection decreased significantly compared the ones with no rhinovirus infection, which hinted the correlation between the rhinovirus infection and the asthma heavier.(3)the total IgE of the asthma children in acute exacerbation with rhinovirus infection increased significantly compared with the ones with no rhinovirus infection. It hinted that rhinovirus was possibly a specific allergen, which caused the total IgE increase after infection and casue the attack of asthma finally. Or asthma exacerbations would happened easier because of rhinovirus infection in asthmatic children with high T-IgE.(4)Both T-IgE and E0S participated the pathophysiological process of bronchial asthma.
