This paper studied the characteristic and suitability of X-ray diffraction (XRD) on the research of fingerprint of solid Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and set up a Second Derivative ( SD ) resolution methodology to analyze the XRD fingerprint of Chinese herbs. On the basis of the former research. a XRD SD fingerprint database of more than 200 kinds of TCM in common use was established according to the standards and requests published by the International Center for Diffraction Data (ICDD). And the XRD SD fingerprint was tried to study the stability of extract technics and the exteacts of the brazilwood. The data-signal treatment technology for the XRD pattern of most Chinese herbs, whose XRD characteristic present disperse and wide peaks, was studied and improved. The Second Derivative method was used to search peaksand established XRD SD fingerprint of TCM The obtained XRD SD fingerprints had obvious peak with sharp profile This method can overcome the defect of traditional XRD analysis for TCM and also solve the problem in analyzing disperse XRD pattern of Chinese herbs.By the study of XRD SD fingerprintsof Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge from different origins. The similarity of the fingerprints was calculated by software recommended by National Pharmacopoeia Committee. The SD treatment method above was evaluated. The results indicated that the XRD SD fingerprints of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge had obvious differences. The similarity of either peak position and intensity...
