Objective:To study the prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgro wth (SIBO) in patients with colon cancer, and to observe that the gast rointestinal symptom can be improved weather by using rifaximin to c ure the SIBO positive patients.Methods:43patients in colon cancer and30healthy people (SF-36h ealth Scale) were all detected by glucose hydrogen breath test (GHBT). All patients were questioned to evaluate the gastrointestinal symptoms. SIBO positive patients on the basis of the original treatment took rifa ximin for10days, and after the treatment course reviewed GHBT and undergo gastrointestinal symptoms score (GISS).Results:SIBO in18of43patients with colon cancer were positive (41.9%), which was significantly higher than healthy controls (6.7%), an d the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Overall GISS of SIBO positive patients were above of SIBO negative patients, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Immediately after treat ment with rifaximin GHBT and VAS scores were evaluated on SIBO positive patients. We found the overall digestive symptoms scores indu ced, and the difference was statistically significant compared with befo re treatment (P<0.05). The differences between before and after with d iarrhea were meaningfully statistically (P<0.05).6of the18patients w ith SIBO positive patients the GHBT turned negative (33.3%), and sy mptoms in SIBO turned negative improved more obvious compared wi th non-turned-negative patients. Conclusion:Colon cancer patients than healthy people are more likely to happen SIBO, and patients with SIBO may aggravate digestive symptoms. Application rifaximin at the SIBO after treatment, patients with digestive part symptoms improved, to some extent, improve the patient’s quality of life.
