The cold end system of thermal power unit is an important auxiliary system for a thermal power plant and its operation condition has a great influence on the safety and economy of the unit. So considering saving coal, energy and water, the optimization of the cold end system's operation is crucial.Based on the domestic and foreign researches of the cold end system's operating characteristics, a systematic theoretical analysis was made about the intrinsic link, operating characteristics, and performance characteristics of the various subsystems and devices of the cold end system. In terms of the parameters variation rules of the cold end system under variable working condition, the paper established a mathematical model for the various subsystems and devices of the cold end system, and analyzed in detail the influence of various factors on the economic operation of the unit. On this basis, from the view of the whole cold end system, the economic operation was analyzed under variable working condition. According to the thermodynamic theory, it determined the analysis method and the optimization algorithm for best vacuum condenser and optimum circulating water flow coupled, established a mathematical model for the optimal operation of the cold end system and also analyzed respectively the solution method for economic operation of circulating water flow adjusted continuously and discontinuously.According to the established optimizing model and the actual demand analysis, this paper abstracted and converted the mathematical model into a software development one, analyzed and designed systematically the software architecture, and made a detailed instruction about the installation and configuration of software development environment. During the realization process of the software function, it had detailed description and analysis for each interface, each function module and the specific implementation of each technology in the system.Finally, taken a power plant as an example, the paper analyzed the system's working performance, and verified the model and software by applying the actual device parameters and the operation data to the theoretical model for the cold end systems above and analyzing the operational efficiency of the optimization. The results showed that the analysis method for operating characteristics of the cold end system and the optimizing model in the paper can identify the operation condition more accurately and estimate energy conservation potential for the cold end system in the power plant. Therefore, it can provide the optimal operation of the various subsystems and devices of the cold end system with the practical ways and useful instrument, and lay the foundation for the realizing further the economic operation of the whole unit.
