Research On Damage Reasons And Chemical Protection Of Earthen Ruins In Gaochang

Gaochang locating about 46 km southeaast of Turpan City,was built in the first century B.C.and it was one of the most active religious centers and the most developed religion areas as well.In 1961,Gaochang had been included in the list of the state's key protection unit.Earthen ruins were precious as the heritage of ancient people reflect human activities,relations,ideology,the use of natural and ecological environment in different periods.They have a high historical,aesthetic and Scientific value.The protection of them is extremely important.Mastering the forms and the mechanism of damage about them is the foundation to understand the protection science.A series of exploration were carried under the guidance of the "Chinese cultural relics protection norms"(2004 Amendment).The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Analysing the forms and damage about mechanism of Gaochang ruins,the conclusions were drawn that:the main damage form are collapse,cracks,salt corrosion, wind corrosion and so on.The main reasons causing damage comes down to the local climate and organism.(2) Through the research on protection methods it can be concluded that the order of the way to improving the penetration depth of the material from high to low is: electric field method,spraying method,infiltration method and the temperature field method.(3)Exploring new protection materials,three agents of S,AS,KD were obtained and the tests shew that:the materials of S and KD could improve the performance of the samples to some extent;AS had a little affect on them.
