As one of the most important clean and renewable energy forms, biomass energy is catching worldwide attention. The utilization technique of biomass energy has been studied for a long time. Some technologies include biomass liquefaction and gasification technologies have been matured for industrial applications. However biomass direct combustion technology doesn't develop very well because of the low combustion temperature.The pyrolysis models and status of the main components of biomass included hemicelluloses, cellulose and lignin were studied to determinate the roles of each component played in the formation of the biomass'pyrolysis. The influence of temperature, particle size and combustion gases in the combustion process was analyzed according to the basic chemical reaction property.The investigations of the pyrolysis and combustion of biomass were preformed on thermogravimetry (TG). The influence of particle size, heating rate and oxygen concentration in air was analyzed according to TG-DTG chart. Some parameters about pyrolysis and combustion were obtained which indicate the process of the pyrolysis and combustion. And these parameters are useful for the further research on biomass direct combustion.Experimental results show that proper measures can steady the combustion status and improve the efficiency of combustion under different stages of combustion. Especially through the oxygen-rich combustion technology, it is possible to increase the combustion temperature to meet the industrial application requirements which will greatly develop biomass direct combustion technology applications.
