As the national economy grows fast, Aluminum serves as the second metallic material of national economy and is widely used more and more. However, in the process of electrolytic aluminum with high energy consumption and great pollution, many hazards occur to people and environment. Today, the situation of environment gets severely, which need us to solve the problems in the aluminum industries via new technologies and measures. In this paper, the author mainly studies two problems as follows.The first study,"Optimization on adsorber structures for asphalt fume from the green anode using CFD", aims at the purifying system. Asphalt fume is one of pollutants emitting from the green anode, which must be decontaminated in the ventilation systems. In this paper, the first step is to simulate the existing venture-type adsorber and find its deficiency. Then three feasible plans to optimize the adsorber are proposed: adjusting the original parameters of asphalt fume and Coke powder; changing the structures of venture-type adsorbers (which includes the adsorber with two feeding pipe and that with small-diameter throat pipe); fixing on the flow-guiding cone in the adsorber. After the analysis via CFD, this kind adsorber with flow-guiding cone is the optimum structural design which can promote the particle diffusion and satisfy the demands in practice. At last, the author respectively simulates the adsorbers to treat flow rates as 40000m3/h, 41000m3/h, 50000m3/h and 21000m3/h, and then determines their detail structures.The second study,"Prediction of natural ventilation performance in an aluminum potroom in hot climate using CFD", aims at the ventilation system. According to the history of aluminum potroom, two different structures are predicted. The first structure is called inner-baffle potroom, which is with the perforated brick wall located on the two sides of the end of cell respectively. And the other structure considered, called large opening potroom, which with a large opening on each outer wall. Then the physical and mathematical models are established. The velocity field and temperature field are simulated when the outdoor temperature is 50℃and the outdoor wind speed is respectively selected from four conditions. There are two purposes using ventilation in aluminum potrooms: superfluous heat is emitted from aluminum pots for good quality of product; accepted thermal environment is maintained for workers. So the author indicates, by the comparative analysis of temperatures on the pot and operating area, the potroom with large opening has better performance in in hot climate.
