As a kind of natural resource, wind energy can be utilized just like coal and petroleum. Since wind energy is a pollution-free and infinitely sustainable form of energy, it is favored by people as a kind of"green resource". North China is an area short of electric power resource but enjoying a rich and multiform wind energy resource. If the local wind energy is well exploited and utilized and small wind generators featuring reliable operation, easy install and low start-up wind speed are developed and popularized in the rural area, converting wind energy to electrical energy for the use of living and production as the supply of .grid. So the local energy shortage can be alleviated and the pollution caused by coal-burning power plants can be reduced. The turbine is the major component by which the wind generators obtain wind energy and its efficiency has a direct influence on the performance of the wind generators. This thesis devises a new type of vertical axis wind turbine by comparing and analyzing the characteristics of small horizontal and vertical axis wind generators with the aim of low wind-speed energy generation. In order to maximize the turbine's absorption of energy, this design optimizes the size parameters of model Y turbine blades. As model Y turbines are hard to start, this thesis suggests the use of modified S turbine to assist the startup of model Y turbines. It analyzes the pneumatic capability optimization of model Y turbine and S turbine respectively and studies S turbine's influence on the operation of model Y turbine. This thesis makes a survey of the current manufacture technic of fiberglass blades and adopts the high-tech pull-and-squeeze technic to carry out the production of the two main blades whose cross-sections are complicated curved ones. This thesis uses the finite element analysis software ANSYS to examine the strength of the blade and analyzes it mode.By combining aerodynamics and the basic theories of wind generators, this thesis brings forward a new method of calculating the motive power of wind generators. Based on theoretical research outcome and under the support of the school mechanics plant, the author of this thesis devised and produced a sample of a small 1KW wind generator. It has passed the test made in natural wind and proves to have the value of practical application.
