Geological condition for arch dam abutment is most important during running of arm dam. We usually choose a dam site in the area no fault and good geological conditions, but we can barely avoid all the geological defects. So it's absolutely necessarily to be treated for every dam foundation.Concrete plug is a effective measure for treating arch dam foundation in fault broken zone, and it was general applied in a good deal important constructions at home and abroad. The theory on concrete plug for force transmission is not further than the practice on it so that engineers design concrete plugs by experience. It can't reach expect effect because of an unsuitable section size of the concrete plug and even can do harm to the safety of the arch dam.In view of this situation, a practical formulae for designing the section size of concrete plug was derived by adopting a spring model based on the previous works. And a calculation program for concrete plug has been writer through numerical analysis, so the difficulty of designing the section size of concrete plug was reduced. Finally, a practical project verifies that the formulae can be used in engineering.
