The Renewal And Development Of The Old University Campus

Since the 1990s, our university campuses are facing college expansion, and the dramatic increase in the number of students. The renewal and the development of the historical university campuses which deposit the culture and history have become very urgent in great needs.Firstly, this paper deals with the definition and the scope of the University campuses. Then through the investigation and document analysis, with using much more cross-disciplinary knowledge and comprehensive analysis of multivariate study, the paper analyses the design on the renewal and the development of the historical university campus deeply, including several university campuses home and abroad (such as Siping Road campus of Tongji University, Tokyo University and Yale University). With the comparison of these examples, the paper discusses the design model of the renewal on the planning and the architecture of the historical campus.With the exploration on the design mode of the planning and the architectural, this section mainly has five directions about solutions of the planning design which are as follows: 1, The mode of the improvement and the separation of the traffic system: centralizing parking, looping reorganization, pedestrians priority Space 2, The mode of the improvement and the regulation of the function: improving functions, expanding historical buildings. 3, The mode of the reconstruction and integration of the open space: reconstruction of the space center, integrating all levels of public space 4, The mode of the coordination and continuation of the human context: inheriting or gradual changing the overall style, continuing the veins. 5. The mode of the reservation and control of the natural landscape: preserving the natural environment, controlling the skyline and the main landscape.The main researching purpose of this paper is to constructing a theoretical framework of the renewal design mode on university campuses and the various dimensions problems. The research could provide reference guide for the formulation of policy, renewal design of the planning and technical architecture, the sustainable development mode of the design on the campus nodes as well as revelation of the renewal design of the historical University campus.Finally, the paper deals with the direction of the further researches.
