Pure electric bus is an ideal clean energy public transport, but at this stage there are some problems such as electric power shortage, short drive range and high cost of battery. As reduce body weight can save the power needed for the same driving range. So lightweight is even more important for pure electric bus.First, the Characteristics of integral body and the design features of pure electric bus were studied. According to the study, a new type of electric bus body plan was proposed. This body plan is committed to significantly reduce the body weight, as to improve the problem of electric power shortage, short drive range. This body was designed in advantage of pure electric bus's design features, as follow.1. Because of less heat and small size of pure electric bus's power system, the power system was layout in the middle of the frame near the rear axel.2. Because of the flexibility of battery arrangement, the battery was placed separately on the middle of the frame.3. According to the design features as above, the rear passenger door was opened in the right wall where behind the rear axel, to ensure the integral of the support structure in the middle of body. Four pieces of trusses structure were designed on the frame and side wall, as to enhance the carrying capacity of the body.According to these design ideas, an initial electric bus body structure was modeled based on integral body technology. Through optimizing the body structure and section size of beam, a model, which is more reasonable on mechanics, was obtained. This model was called First optimized model.The analysis of this model shows that, this bus body achieve to loss 1500kg weight, while ensuring the same strength and stiffness with similar bus. Because one of the most important Characteristic of this bus body is the integral support structure in the middle of body. A bus body, which's rear passenger door was opened in the middle of the body, was designed. The analysis of this body shows that the body with rear passenger door in the middle of the body is less strong and hard. This comparison verifies that the body with integral support structure in the middle of body is more reasonable.As mentioned above, this body plan is committed to reduce the body weight. To achieve the purpose of reduce the body weight as much as possible. A program was designed to optimize the section size of beam. Through the optimizing, a more satisfactory body structure model was obtained. This model was called Ultimate model. The analysis of Ultimate model shows that this program is very useful on optimize of the section size of beam. It has great advantage in the lightweight design of bus body.
