Silt measurement at Taihu Lake bottom is a very important basic work in the phase of data collection, investigation and analyses for the dredge up plan of polluted bottom clay, which outcome will affect directly the comprehensive control plan, project scale and final effect. The aim of this project is to research a new method for Silt measurement at Taihu Lake, adopting domestic or foreign advanced technology considering characteristic of Taihu Lake. The areas researched in this project are three internal lakes -Zushanhu, Meilianhu and Gonghu.There are two common methods for silt measurement, viz. measurement rod and boring, which will disturb the silt, and can't measure continuing either horizontally or vertically. Therefore,the measurement precision and efficiency of the foresaid methods both are unsatisfied. At the same time, the traditional methods cannot find out distribute of flowing silt and floating silt. In the recent years, some researching has been carried out concerning SILAS system both in china and abroad. SILAS have been used in field of nautical depth survey. But the sample which SILAS combined with other technology has not been found.Principle of silt partition with density is put forwarded in this article, and some common used measurement methods have been mentioned here comparing to SILAS so as to sum up the characteristic thereof.Working principle and characteristic of SILAS is introduced here. By Silt measurement in three internal lakes-Zushanhu, Meilianghu and Gonghu, distribute of bottom clay is found out at the main polluted lake bay. Anatomy has been performed concerning key technology such as depth measurement, density determine and calculation of silt reserves.Measurement with SILAS base on partition with density of silt change the measurement from simple thickness to dimensional distribute of density, which enable to carry out quantitative analysis for movement rules and pollute status as physical character of the silt. It's important for researching of filling up of river and reservoir, determine for nautical depth and standards of environmental silt clearing.
