While the sheet grade ABS is of high performance, it is widely used as the raw materials forrefrigerator. As such grade ABS requires high production technology, the comprehensive performances ofthe produced native resins can not meet the requirements of imported ABS resins of sheet grade anddomestic refrigerators.In this paper, the development and the industrial production of the special grade ABS resin forrefrigerators are investigated. The development of ABS resins production technology for refrigerators inforeign and domestic also is discussed. The special grade ABS resin for refrigerators should have thecharacters in excellent processing, resistance to environment stress crack, tenacity at low temperature, goodappearance, low smell, etc. By choosing the technology for latex grafting and its blending with SAN, basedon the base PB latex, the key technology of agglomeration polymerization of polybutadiene,chemicalagglomeration and grafting polymerization is investigated. From experiment,middle experiment and theindustrial production test, the special grade ABS resin for refrigerators is obtained and can be used inproducing the refrigerators in DaQing ABS equipment, and the quality requirements can be met. And littlePB latex polymerization time controls in less than 9 hours, latex size is 100nm, conversion is over 97%.The latex has excellent stability during storage which can guarantee the PB latex agglomerate smoothly.Agglomeration time controls from 3 to 4 hours, latex size is 300nm, the latex releasing is less than 1%; itcan guarantee the grafting polymerize smoothly. The grafting polymerization time controls in less than 7hours; the grafting ratio is 35%; the conversion ratio is over 98%. The latex has excellent stability duringstorage. The ABS powder has the characteristics of high latex content, high acrylonitrile content, latex sizeuniformity and dewater easily. The factory uses the ABS resins in extruding sheet, inhale Molding andassembling after production. It proves that the ABS resins has the characteristics of MFI stability, higherelongation and toughness, high surface gloss and color white, and all the quality requirements forrefrigerators industry can be met totally.
