Nano WO3 electrochromic films were fabricated on bare ITO glass and gold-nanoparticle-film chemically modified ITO glass. The effects of preparation condition were discussed and optimized. The experimental results indicated that the films annealed at 75℃had the advantages of distinct color change, short response time, excellent stability and long cycle life. Furthermore, WO3-GNF electrochromic films had a better performance.Gold nanoparticle film/ITO electrode (GNF/ITO) and phosphotungstic acid/gold nanoparticle film/ITO electrode (PWA/GNF/ITO) were also prepared, and the electrochemical behavior of the electrodes was discussed. The experimental results indicated that PWA/GNF/ITO electrode had a better electrocatalytic effect on IO3- in a buffer solution of pH 2.3. The calibration range was from 0.02μmol L-1 to 2.00μmol L-1 and a detection limit of 8 nmol L-1. The PWA/ GNF/ITO electrode was then used in determination of the iodine content in the common salt, and the result was satisfying.
