| The inverted torsion pendulum technique (JN-1 vacuum internal friction technique) was used to test the damping capacities of Fe-Al alloys. The microstructure of ferromagnetics for Fe-Al alloys as well as the effects of alloy elements and heat treatment on the damping behavior and mechanical properties of Fe-Al based alloys have been investigated systematically by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The micro-mechanism for high damping properties and similar and dissimilar welding properties of Fe-Al alloys has been discussed. The results indicate that alloy elements affect obviously the damping capacity of these alloys. The addition of Al, Mo and Si are of advantage for the improvement of damping and mechanical properties of these alloys. Especially, Mo can greatly enhance the comprehensive capability of the alloys.Heat-treating technology obviously affects the damping capacity of these alloys. With the heat-treating temperature rise and time increase, the damping capacity of Fe-Al reaches peaks at 900℃or 1000℃for two hours followed by air cooling and decreases with further increasing of heat-treating temperature and time.Damping capacity and the crystal morphology of the alloys under different aging time at 350℃after heat-treating at 900℃for two hours has slight alteration. The tensile properties are investigated. The results indicate... |
