This paper is concerned with the study of the identification of the NC machine tools joint抯 behavior parameters. A new analysis model of joint called unit area parameters mechanical model is founded, in which a lot of stiffness and damping are distributed evenly among the interface area. So it抯 characteristic parameters can be presented perfectly by unit area parameters, which are more precise and more useful. In this paper, dynamic behavior of the interface is studied with a new method, which is based on relative displacement of vibration. As a result, the interfacial parameters identified are accurate for they have been eliminated the influence of vibration of base. And besides, some devices are developed correspondingly. Finally, the interfacial stiffness and damping are identified by the means mentioned above and distributed software based on client/server system for the purpose of establishing joint characteristic parameters library is developed. In addition, the paper has obtained a technique to improve the mechanical performance of interface. It indicates that the performance of joint will be enhanced obviously when it is put grease or something of the kind on. It is clear that the new technique will be used widely during the design of high anti-vibration devices.
