Geographical Information System (GIS) is a space information system which can collect, store, administer, analyze and describe data of the earth wholly or partly that related with space and geographic distribution. Virtual Reality Geographic Information System (VRGIS) is a technology, which can connect virtual reality with geographic information system. VRGIS is a virtual reality technology, which can researches geosciences or takes geoscientific system as object, as well as is a rising research branch of GIS recently. Incorporation of virtual reality and geographic information system is in favor of embodying predominance of space expression, improving a capability which can combine space expression, analyses and search,, on the other hand enlarging application area of virtual reality. In a word, VRGIS could combine geosciences with regional science and service them best.This thesis introduces systematically application and development technology and development process of virtual reality geographic information systems in Juntang lake region, on the basis of analyzing, researching, comparing development technique of VRGIS and development situation, development trends, the thesis adopted Visual C++ and OpenGL functions library to develop virtual reality geographic information systems of Juntang lake region, and has realized function of VRGIS wholly. According to the direction of the professional research and character of this system, on the development process of the system, the writer adopted the scheme that combines COM technology with VRGIS. So the structural system is clearly, better, and can reduce the hardness of developing and maintaining subsystem.
