An experimental investigation of separated flow over wavy surfaces is presented in which laser-Doppler velocimetry is demonstrated to be a useful technique for velocity and turbulence data acquisition. Time-averaged velocity, turbulent intensity, skewness, and flatness data are given.;The size, shape and extent of the separated flow region is determined for both waves. The physical meaning of the turbulence data is interpreted in terms of flow structure and a modification of the classical view of separated flow is supported by the data. The data also provide a means of testing theoretical models of separated flow.;Data were taken in a forty foot long stainless steel water tunnel which was rectangular in cross section. The channel cross section was twenty four by two inches, the two inch dimension being vertical. The Plexiglas test section was at the downstream end with a removable bottom which had the waves machined into its surface. Data were taken over waves having peak-to-peak amplitude to wavelength ratios of .200 and .125 at a Reynolds number of 12000.
