Abstract/Summary:
This research study investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and New Product Development (NPD) team leader success. The EI was measured using the Emotional Quotient Inventory (BARON EQ-IRTM ). The results of the study found no statistical relationship between leader success and total EQ scores. However, the research identified statistical relationships between the Interpersonal composite scores and age, experience, and gender. The study found that the EQ-I Interpersonal composite was negatively related with age and level of experience. The study also found a relationship between gender (women) and the Interpersonal composite EQ-I scores supporting previous research that women tend to be more skilled in the Interpersonal Relationship areas consisting of empathy, social responsibility, and interpersonal relationships.
