Feilaifeng to adjacent to lingyin temple in hangzhou city,zhejiang province,the statue of Feilaifeng is the largest buddhist statue remains in the southeast of China.The research on Feilaifeng statues began at the beginning of the last century.Over the years,there have been many disputes about the origin of Feilaifeng statues in the yuan dynasty.Through the specific analysis of the crown,hair,clothing,wreathen,and pedestal,we can draw a point of view that the source of the powder of the statues in the Yuan dynasty of Feilaifeng is not related to the Xixia and the Xitian Fanxiang,but has its own characteristics.Avoid too much detail;Carve out the ambiguity of the boundary line.In a word,the statues of Feilaifeng in the yuan dynasty did not follow the styles of the previous dynasties.Instead,it had its own characteristics and created a new style,which had an impact on the statues of yongxuan in the Ming dynasty.At the same time,it is a new era that creates the unique style of Feilaifeng Yuan dynasty statues.The unique style of Feilaifeng in the Yuan dynasty was not born out of the sky,but implied the will of the emperor Kublai Khan and the policy of the yuan generation.Including: the political situation of national unity;Advocating the han rule of law;It is compatible with all religious policies.The emperor’s desire for longevity and the expectation for the next generation of emperors are also shown in the inscription.Moreover,the unique combination form of the 99 th niche statue,which has been troubling the academia,can also be explained by combining the background and inscription of the statue at that time.At the same time,the debate between Buddhism and Taoism recorded in the A record of distinguishing forgeries in Da Yuan Zhi Yuan is close to the time when feilaifeng was excavated,from which we can see the significance of the Han and Tibetan coexistence layout of Feilaifeng statue.Both from the style of the statues and from the historical context behind the statues,the statues of Feilaifeng embody the sinicization of Buddhism.It is the gradual localization of Buddhism since the song dynasty,Kublai Khan’s attention to the han dynasty and the mind of embracing all rivers,and the annexation of Tibet since the yuan dynasty that contributed to the communication and integration of the han and Tibetan nationalities,and contributed to the formation of the sinicized statue of Feilaifeng.This paper points out the characteristics of the sinicization of Feilaifeng statues,the overall understanding of Feilaifeng statues,and the study of the sinicization process of Buddhism,have important case value.
