Although the barcode application has been more than twenty years in our country, the most applications are still of one dimensional barcode. Compared with the widely application of two dimensional barcode abroad, our country has fall behind and the most important factor is that we have not controlled the core technology of two dimensional barcode reading. The barcode reading technology has been in a time of image recognition which once based on infrared or laser technology. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has already started to be applied, and own a lot of advantages, however, it isn't seen the foreground that the RFID will replace of the barcode because of its cost and reliability. The core technology of two dimensional barcode recognition is the image scan engine, which is an embedded system with a high speed processing CPU and barcode recognition softwares. Because of the uncertain of the barcode image capture environment and the diversity of adoptable technology, there has been increasing interest in the high credibility barcode image recognition arithmetics and many significant results have been presented. But barcode image scan engine is integrated from various softwares and the hardwares, there have been few results owing to their particularity and complexity.The Image-Processing-based embedded Barcode Recognition System is not only required to suit the light relative invariable barcode scan engine, as the popularization of intelligent mobile, but also has been largely ported to the light-uncertain intelligent phones abroad. How to resolve the portability and high-reliability of the barcode recognition system is a hot research field. Therefore, it's of important theoretical and practical meaning to study the problems of embedded barcode recognition system based on image processingThis paper makes use of multiple technics and methods, and has resolved many core problems which are encountered in Embedded Barcode Recognition System Based on Image Processing and its application. The main areas are as follows:1. The design methodology of embedded system is still on the phase of theory exploring, compared with the mature software engineering. Firstly, the problems in embedded system development are concerned. A concept of hierarchical barcode scan engine and the map between software development platforms and general-purpose architecture design stack is derived form platform-based design methods. In additional, there are some descriptions and analysis in barcode image engine architecture used in practicality and here also provide the hardware architecture and software levels and functions.2. In the light uncertain application of intelligent mobiles, the key problem of image capture by using the mobile camera is to thershold the image under complex light conditions. This paper solves the uncertain light problem by using a global threshold. This method avoids the users of selecting parameters, in addition, it presents a rapid self-adapted threshold arithmetic on approximation of parameters, improves the speed of arithmetic.3. Most of the recognition arithmetic of one dimensional barcode is matching methods based on statistics. Similarly, in the application of intelligent mobiles where the light environment is uncertain, we need a new method to recognize the one dimensional barcode because of its larger noises. By using Blind deconvolution, it can reconfigure the barcode without apriority knowledge.4. Recent years, the matrix barcodes which can contain a mass of information are becoming popular. This paper mainly concerns the encoding rules and error correction of the QR code (Quick Response Code), and researched the decoding algorithm.5. The barcode recognition system, based on the digital image processing, is the main part of the barcode image scan engine. PTD (Portable Data-collection Terminal) need solve the communication of two systems if the system needs the barcode image engine in practice. This paper researches the hardware architecture and software modules of PDT. In addition, we introduced the software environment of the intelligent mobile, and the method of porting from barcode recognition system to the intelligent mobile.The last chapter summarizes the main work in this paper and prospects the research of Embedded Barcode Recognition System Based on Image Processing and its applications in the future.
