Micro-channel Electrophoresis Chip (MCE Chip) is a rapidly developing field. It is a multidisciplinary technology and derived from Micro Opto Electro Mechanical System (MOEMS), biochemistry and analytical chemistry. It has been applied for life science, drug discovery and medicine.In this dissertation, both electrophoresis principle on MCE chip and the design and development of MCE chip detection system are studied. Two sets of detection system of MCE chip system are also developed. The experiments results showed that DNA segments have been successfully separated and detected by using this system.The topics of this dissertation are presented below.1. The most recent developments and a novel design of MCE chip system are reviewed;2. The design of MCE chip is laid out and the two complete systems are manufactured;3. The whole system is integrated by seven modules and optimized using a LIF based detection system.4. This detection system has been used for DNA segments separation experiments, the results showed that it has met the need for DNA separation and maybe satisfy for DNA sequencing.The dissertation showed that MCE chip has some advantages such as high speed and sensitivity, as well as chip's design flexibility. But how to decrease the cost of MCE chip needs further works.Great progress in several related techniques, MCE chip has a broad application in the future, especially MCE chip may be a main part in micro total analysis system (uTAS), which will make a notable impact on the chemical, biological and medical assay fields.
