The relationship between perfectionism, stress, coping, social support and depression is close and complicated. As a stable personality trait, perfectionism need a long time to be changed. To decrease perfectionism's negative influence on depression more quickly and effectively, it is important to examine the mediation mechanism of stress, coping and social support in the relation between perfectionism and depression. The relationship between stress and perfectionism is close. To decrease the close relation between stress and depression, it is important to examine the mediation mechanism of perfectionism, daily hassles, coping, social support in the relation between life events and depression. In Study 1, we examined the perfectionism's definition given by Slaney in a university sample through an open investigation. The purpose of this study was to test if the definition can be applied under Chinese culture. In Study 2, we revised the Almost Perfect Scale- Revised (APS-R) into Chinese on the basis of Study 1 .Through translation, pretest and normal test, We revised the APS-R in four university student samples and examined the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of APS-R.In Study 3, we used high standards and discrepancy of The Chinese Revised Version of APS-R to cluster the university students.Through the median procedure, we divided the sample into four groups, including a group with high-High Standards/low-Discrepancy, a group with high-High Standards / high- Discrepancy, a group with low-High Standards/low-Discrepancy and a group with low-High Standards/high-Discrepancy.Analysis of variance were conducted to examine group differences on GPA, satisfaction with GPA, self-efficiency, positive affect, negative affect, depression and state anxiety. In study 4, we used a longitudinal design to examine the mediation mechanism of stress, coping and social support in the relation between perfectionism and depression in a university students sample. In order to compare the different mechanism of different kind of stressors, we analyzed the mediation mechanism of daily hassles and life events separately. In study 5, we also used a longitudinal design to examine the mediation mechanism of perfectionism, daily hassles, coping and social support in the relation between life events and depression in the same university students sample. At the same time, we also examined the mediation model confirmed by study 4.The main results are elaborated as following.1. APS-R-CR has good reliability and validity.2. There were significant differences in psychological adjustment and academic indicators across the group with high-High Standards/low-Discrepancy, the group with high-High Standards/high- Discrepancy, the group with low-High Standards/ low-Discrepancy and the group with low-High Standards/ high- Discrepancy. According to the differences.3. Daily hassles, avoidant coping and perceived social support partly mediated the relation between discrepancy and depression.4. Discrepancy and daily hassles mediated the relation between life events and depression directly.
