Space application of staring detection system can achieve the long gaze observation and tracking of the target, it very useful to forecast the dangerous targets timely. In this paper, base on the space-based infrared array detection system, the characteristics of the point target imaging was analyzed, And the high sensitivity of the target detection applications was discussed.Because the contrast between the dim small target and background is small, the target is easily interfered by noise, in this paper the noise characteristics of the staring imaging system were discussed in depth, and the difference role played by difference noise in the multi frame accumulation was provided. And from the view of the signal to noise ratio(SNR), the relationship between noise and detector gain was analysis, which provide the theoretical basis for improving the detection sensitivity of the point target by using different gain.Considering the energy distribution and the movement of the point target on the FPA(Focal Pixel Array),the detection performance and Position accuracy was influence. So,the imaging model and simulation of the point target in the synchronous orbit were taken in considered, and the change of the target energy, the energy concentration and the coordinate of the target is analyzed, which influenced by inter-pixel and fill factor of the detector array during the image of the target moving through the detector.The SNR in the image plane is the most important factors affecting the point target detection. In this paper the model of the target detection probability was analysis; the influence of the detection sensitivity and coordination precision by the non-uniformity and the blind pixels was analyzed. Then the local entropy and energy concentration was used in target detection. In order to improve the detection sensitivity, the DTDI(Digital time delay and integrate) with blind pixel eliminating was proposed; the real-time detection and tracking method based on local windowing technology were be used; and the performance of ADC(Analog to digital converter) by the over sampling was also be analyzed.In order to verify the detection performance Promoted by multi frame accumulation in small caliber camera, the ground imaging system was designed. And the ground-scaled high sensitivity detection experiment was done to verify the detection ablity for a 10000W/Sr dim target by an infrared camera with 180 mm diameter at the synchronous orbit.After the analysis of the staring imaging system, the affection of point target detection is clearer, and is useful to improve the detection sensitivity and provide a theoretical and experimental reference.
