Purpose:By observing the clinical efficacy of the five-gate and ten-variable allotment method and the conventional allotment method in treating insomnia of the heart and spleen deficiency type, comparing the improvement of sleep quality and TCM symptoms between the two acupuncture methods, exploring the efficacy advantages of the five-gate and ten-variable allotment method, further exploring its guiding value in acupuncture clinical practice, and broadening the clinical treatment ideas of acupuncture.Material and method:The subjects in this study were all patients from the outpatient clinic of the Department of Encephalopathy of the Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Chinese Medicine from January 2021 to July 2022.Sixty patients with a Western medicine diagnosis consistent with primary insomnia and a Chinese medicine diagnosis consistent with the two deficiencies of the heart and spleen type of restlessness were screened and divided into observation and control groups according to a 1:1 ratio using the random number table method. The main acupoints of both the control group and the observation group used the acupuncture prescription of the two deficiency types of heart and spleen in the Clinical Practice Guide of Chinese Medicine for Insomnia, where the control group still used the acupoints in the guide for the matching points and the observation group used the acupoints of the five gates and ten variations of the matching point method.Acupuncture was performed for 5 consecutive days with 2 days of rest for one course of treatment, for a total of 4 courses of treatment. The Pittsburgh Sleepiness Index Inventory(PSQI)was used to evaluate the patients’ sleep quality;the TCM symptom score scale was used to evaluate the patients’ symptoms of the heart and spleen deficiency type, and the data obtained were analyzed and compared,so as to clarify the different treatment effects of the two groups. At the same time, the adverse reactions of the patients during the treatment were recorded.Results:1.Baseline data analysis: No statistically significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of gender, age, and duration of disease(p > 0.05).The differences in PSQI scores and TCM symptom scale scores between the two groups before treatment were not statistically significant(p>0.05).2.Analysis of intra-group data before and after treatment: Before and after treatment, the total scores and sub-scores of PSQI and TCM symptoms were reduced in both observation and control groups, and the differences were statistically significant(p< 0.05).After treatment, there was no significant difference between the observation group and the control group in PSQI regarding sleep time and sleep efficiency(p>0.05),but the differences in sleep quality, sleep time, sleep disorder, daytime dysfunction and total score were statistically significant(all met p<0.05);in the TCM symptom scale scores regarding insomnia, loose stools, dizziness and dizziness and total score. In the TCM symptom score table, there were significant differences in insomnia, loose stools, dizziness and total score, which were statistically significant(p < 0.05),but there were no significant differences in the rest of the symptoms, which were not statistically significant(p > 0.05).4.Comparison of the efficiency of the two groups after treatment: after the treatment course, the total efficiency of the observation group was 93.10%,and the total efficiency of the control group was 86.21%,with no statistically significant difference by statistical analysis p>0.05.5.During the treatment process, there was one patient in both the control group and the observation group who failed to complete the treatment and fell off for their own reasons,so the total number of cases included in the final result was 58.Also,the patients did not have any serious adverse findings during this period.Conclusion:1.Acupuncture treatment can improve the overall sleep quality as well as TCM symptoms in patients with heart and spleen deficiency type insomnia.2.The five-gate and ten-variable acupuncture point allocation method can better improve sleep quality, prolong sleep time, improve daytime dysfunction, and is also superior to conventional acupuncture point allocation method in improving patients’ symptoms of insomnia, loose stools, and dizziness.
