| Objective(s):To understand the characteristics of animal-related injury cases in a certain district of Shenzhen City from 2015 to 2019,and analyze the high-risk factors associated with the severity of animal-related injuries. This study aims to provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of animal-related injuries.Method(s):Medical records of patients seeking treatment at sentinel hospitals for animal-related injuries in a certain district of Shenzhen City from2015 to 2019 were collected.Descriptive analysis was conducted using SPSS software version 26.0 to describe the general information of patients, basic characteristics of injury events, and clinical information of the injuries.Univariate analysis was used to preliminarily screen the factors influencing the severity of injuries.Subsequently, using the severity of injuries(mild,moderate/severe)as the dependent variable, variables with significant significance in the univariate analysis were assigned values and subjected to multivariate logistic regression analysis.A significance level of P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Result(s):1.General information of animal-related injury patients: A total of15,285 cases of animal-related injuries were reported in a certain district of Shenzhen City from 2015 to 2019,with 9,231 cases in males and 6,054 cases in females, resulting in a male-to-female ratio of 1.5:1.The age group with the highest incidence was 15-29 years old, accounting for4,899 cases(32.63%).Among the injured population, there were a significant number of floating population with 14,738 cases(96.42%).The most common educational level was junior high school diploma, with 7,057 cases(46.17%).The occupation with the highest incidence was production, transportation, and related personnel, with 2,448 cases(16.02%).2.Characteristics of animal-related injury events: The peak quarter for animal-related injuries was the third quarter, with 5,370 cases(35.13%),followed by the second quarter with 2,028 cases(13.27%).The most common location of injury was at home, accounting for 8,617 cases(56.38%).The main activity at the time of injury was leisure activities, with 11,480 cases(75.11%).3.Clinical features of animal-related injuries: The predominant nature of injuries was bites/open wounds, accounting for 14,573 cases(95.34%).The main sites of injuries were upper extremities and lower extremities, with 7,574 cases(49.55%)and 6,885 cases(45.04%)respectively.The severity of injuries was categorized as mild and moderate/severe,with 14,565 cases(95.29%)and 720 cases(4.71%)respectively.Dogs were the primary animals causing injuries, accounting for 1,016 cases(66.52%).The main outcome of injuries was discharge after treatment, with 15,210 cases(99.51%).4.The results of the multivariable analysis of severity of animal-related injuries showed that registered residence(OR: 1.516,95%CI: 1.097-2.096),education level(high school or technical school OR:2.118,95% CI: 1.568-2.862),occupation(household chores OR: 2.322,95% CI: 1.526-3.533),location(farmland or farm OR: 12.857,95% CI:4.294-38.492),activity(leisure activities OR: 2.028,95% CI:1.332-3.088),involvement of systems(digestive system OR: 7.828,95%CI: 1.833-33.429),and body site(multiple sites OR: 9.747,95% CI:3928-24.190)were high-risk factors for the occurrence of moderate to severe animal-related injuries. The second quarter(OR: 0.452,95% CI:0.366-0.557)was the most significant protective factor against moderate to severe animal injuries.5.The results of the multivariable analysis of severity of animal-related injuries in production, transportation, and related personnel showed that education level(high school or technical school OR: 5.48,95% CI: 1.893-15.862),and location(highway or street OR:6.905,95% CI: 1.032-46.205)were high-risk factors for animal-related injuries. The second quarter(OR: 0.565,95% CI: 0.313-1.017)was the most significant protective factor against moderate to severe animal injuries.Conclusion(s):1.Males,individuals aged 15-29,floating population, individuals with a junior high school education, and those engaged in production, transportation, and related occupations are high-risk groups for animal-related injuries. The majority of animal-related injuries occur during the third quarter. The most common locations of injuries are within the home.Leisure activities are the most frequent circumstances leading to injuries. The most common injury type is bites/open wounds. The upper and lower limbs are the primary body sites affected.Mild injuries are the most common severity level.Canines are the primary source of injuries.2.Registered residence(within the city or county),education level(high school or technical school),occupation(household chores),location(farmland or farm),activity(leisure activities),system(digestive system),body site(multiple sites),and outcome(hospitalization)are high-risk factors for moderate to severe animal-related injuries. The second quarter is a protective factor against moderate to severe animal injuries.3.For individuals engaged in production, transportation, and related occupations, the high-risk factors for moderate to severe animal-related injuries include education level(high school or technical school)and location(highway or street),while the second quarter is a protective factor against moderate to severe animal injuries. |
