Objective: this study is to compare the scleral thickness and subfoveal choroidal thickness of central serous chorioretinopathy(CSC)eyes with controls using optical coherence tomography(OCT),and to study the correlation between choroidal thickening and scleral thickness.Method: A total of 40 patients(43 eyes)with a first diagnosis of central plasmacytoid chorioretinopathy(CSC)who were seen in our ophthalmology department from December2020 to December 2022 were selected as the case group,of which 31 were male and 9 were female.A total of 40 patients(29 males and 11 females)matched with the experimental group in terms of age, sex, and axial length(AL)were randomly selected as the control group among patients who were seen in our hospital during the same period and excluded retinal disease, corneal disease, glaucoma, uveal disease, and autoimmune disease. The SCT and anterior scleral thickness were measured using the corresponding examination equipment. To compare the difference between choroidal thickness and anterior scleral thickness in the case and control groups,to analyze the correlation between choroidal thickening and scleral thickness in the case and control groups. Results: All included 40 cases of CSC and 40 controls underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic examination including OCT technique.Among them,no significant differences were seen between the case and control groups in terms of gender, age, intraocular pressure and axial length, and the differences were not statistically significant(p > 0.05).The SCT of the case group was significantly higher than that of the control group(p < 0.001),and the difference was statistically significant, compared with the control group, the scleral thickness in all four directions(superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal)was higher in the case group at 2mm and 6 mm after the scleral spur than in the control group. In the correlation analysis between choroidal thickness and anterior scleral thickness in the case group,a significant positive correlation(p < 0.05)was found between SCT and the mean scleral thickness in four directions at 2 mm(r=0.3221)and 6 mm(r=0.3134)post-scleral spur. The correlation between SCT and scleral thickness in four directions at 2 mm and 6 mm after scleral spur was significantly lower in the control group compared to the case group(p > 0.05).Conclusion: The anterior scleral thickness and subfoveal choroidal thickness measured by OCT was significantly greater in CSC eyes than in normal control eyes, although no differences were found in age,sex and axial length.Scleral characteristics might be involved in the pathogenesis of CSC by affecting outflow resistance of venous drainage in choroidal circulation.
