Effect Of Kusuantongtiao Formula On Visceral Fat Content And Serum Omentin-1 Level In Overweight/obesity Type 2 Diabetic Patients

Objective: In this study,we observed the effect of Kusuantongtiao formula on visceral fat content and serum Omentin-1 level in newly diagnosed and newly treated type 2 diabetic patients(phlegm-heat interaction syndrome),evaluated the efficacy and safety of Kusuantongtiao Formula in reducing blood glucose and weight,and provided clinical basis for treating overweight/obese T2 DM with traditional Chinese medicine.Methods: Seventy-two newly diagnosed and newly treated overweight/obese T2DM(phlegm-heat interaction syndrome)patients were enrolled in the outpatient and inpatient departments of Endocrinology and Metabolism Department of The First Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine,randomly divided into treatment group and control group with 36 cases in each group,and given the same lifestyle guidance(diet and exercise).On this basis,the treatment group was treated with Kusuantongtiao formula and the control group was treated with metformin hydrochloride tablets(0.5g,taken orally with meals twice a day).The treatment cycle was 12 weeks.After 12 weeks of treatment,the safety indexes,hemoglobin A1 c,fasting blood glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,visceral fat content,serum Omentin-1,BMI,waist circumference,waist-hip ratio,total cholesterol,triglyceride and TCM syndrome scores of the two groups were observed and compared.After statistical analysis,the effectiveness and safety of Kusuantongtiao formula in treating overweight/obese T2 DM patients were evaluated.Results: After 12 weeks of treatment,(1)TCM syndrome improvement: The treatment group can effectively improve the symptoms of obesity,abdominal distension,thirst,overeating,thirsty for drink,yellow urine and constipation,and the curative effect is better than that of the control group(P<0.05).(2)Weight loss: After treatment,the visceral fat area,BMI,WC and WHR of the two groups decreased significantly,and the serum Omentin-1level increased significantly,with statistical significance(P<0.05);There was no significant difference between the two groups after treatment(P>0.05).(3)In terms of lowering blood glucose and lipid: fasting plasma glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose,hemoglobin A1 c,triglyceride and total cholesterol in both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment,with statistical significance(P<0.05);After treatment,there was no statistical difference between fasting plasma glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c(P>0.05),but there was statistical difference between triglyceride and total cholesterol(P<0.05).(4)In terms of safety,the vital signs of the two groups were stable before and after treatment,and there were no obvious abnormalities in blood routine,stool routine and liver and kidney function.Conclusion: Kusuantongtiao formula can effectively improve the traditional Chinese medicine symptoms of overweight/obese T2DM(phlegm-heat interaction syndrome)patients,reduce blood glucose and lipid levels,alleviate abdominal obesity,reduce visceral fat content and increase serum Omentin-1 level,without any adverse reactions.It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
