Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand the work experience and organizational support needs of nurses returning to work after childbirth through semistructured interviews and literature review based on organizational support theory;to compile the organizational support needs scale for nurses returning to work after childbirth, and to conduct reliability tests to provide a basis for nursing managers to manage nurses returning to work after childbirth, and to lay the foundation for constructing a management program for nurses returning to work after childbirth in the future. Methods: 1.Objective sampling method was used to select 15 nurses returning to work after childbirth in a third-class A hospital in Shenyang for semi-structured interviews,to deeply understand the organizational support needs and work experience of nurses returning to work after childbirth, and to analyze the interview data and extract items from it.Systematically searched web of science,Pubmed,CINAHL,CNKI,Wanfang,VIP and CBM,the items were supplemented by reviewing the existing literature and combined with organizational support theory to form the items and dimensions of the scale, and the first draft of the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth was compiled after group discussion.2.Fifteen clinical nursing and nursing management experts from nine different provinces and cities across China were invited to revise the items and dimensions after two rounds of Delphi expert correspondence.A convenience sampling method was used to select 10 nurses returning to work after childbirth in a tertiary care hospital in Shenyang,Liaoning Province, for a pre-experiment to modify the formulation of the items, resulting in a test version of the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth.3.A convenience sampling method was used to distribute questionnaires to 124 nurses returning to work after childbirth in 11 tertiary care hospitals in Shenyang and Anshan,Liaoning Province,Beijing and Yichang,Hubei Province.Based on the questionnaire data, item analysis was performed to further screen the entries using the critical ratio decision value method, correlation coefficient method and Cronbach’s a coefficient method.Internal consistency was used for reliability analysis, and content validity and structural validity were used for validity analysis to finally form the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth. Results: 1.The semi-structured interview phase was analyzed and refined into 5 themes and 11 categories, which were manager support(support for work schedule, support for breastfeeding leave schedule, psychological support for nursing managers),work environment support(support for breastfeeding, childcare support),work condition support(support for occupational protection, support for returning to work),colleague support(help at work, psychological support for colleagues),and changes in nurses after returning to work(physical changes, emotional changes). The literature review extracted11 items to add to the pool of items.A preliminary draft of the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth was developed after group discussion, containing 5 dimensions(manager support, work environment support, work condition support, colleague support, and emotional support)and 33 items.2.In the Delphi expert correspondence phase, the return rate of the questionnaire in the two rounds was 100%,the authority coefficient of experts was 0.92,and the coordination coefficients of experts’ opinions in the two rounds were 0.247 and 0.228;based on the experts’ opinions and the feedback from the pre-survey,the test version of the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth was modified and formed, containing 3 dimensions(manager support, working condition support, and colleague support)and 24 items.3.After item analysis and reliability testing, the final edition of the scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth contained 3 dimensions(manager and colleague support, work condition support, and psychological support)and19 items. The Cronbach’s a coefficient for the total scale was 0.945 and the SpearmanBrown fold-half reliability was 0.941.The content validity index(I-CVI)for each item level ranged from 0.88 to 1.00,and the mean content validity index(S-CVI/Ave)for the scale level was A total of three factors were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis, with a cumulative variance contribution of 65.612%.Conclusion: The scale of organizational support needs for nurses returning to work after childbirth developed in this study contains 3 dimensions and 19 items. The scale has good reliability and validity and can be used as a measurement tool for the organizational support needs of nurses returning to work after childbirth.
