Objective: To investigate the correlation between the severity of ulcerative colitis(UC)illness and the extent of their anxiety and their depression, and the influence of mental intervention on the outcomes of UC.Methods: Fifty-four patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis who visited the Department of Gastroenterology of the The First Affiliated University Hospital of Xinjiang Medical from January 2022 to June 2022 were selected.Simple Clinical Colitis Activity Index(SCCAI)and Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Severity Index(UCEIS)were used to assess the disease severity of patients. The Generalized Anxiety Scale(GAD-7)and Depression Screening Scale(PHQ-9)were used to assess the patients’ psychological status. The correlation between the severity of UC disease and the degree of anxiety and depression was analyzed. And patients with SCCAI score of moderate to severe group were selected. The patients were grouped into UC foundation treatment(foundation treatment group)and combination of foundation treatment with mental intervention treatment(mental intervention group)according to the therapeutic regimen to test the effect of psychological intervention on the efficacy of UC.Results: Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a correlation between UCEIS scores and SCCAI scores.Anxiety and depression were common in UC patients, and the degree of anxiety and depression increased with the severity of the disease.Symptom scores improved in both groups before and after the intervention, with more significant improvement in the group of psychological intervention than in the basic therapeutic group(P < 0.05).There was no significant difference in both anxiety and depression scales before and after treatment in the basic treatment group(P > 0.05),and there was a reduction in both anxiety and depression ratings after the treatment in the psychological intervention group(P < 0.05).Conclusion: As the severity of UC disease increased, the degree of anxiety and depression of patients also increased.Combining psychological intervention therapy with basic treatment can better improve the clinical symptoms of UC patients and can alleviate the anxiety and depression status.
