OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy and advantages and disadvantages of the hybrid and Sublay procedures for the treatment of incisional hernia of the abdominal wall.METHODS: Cases of incisional hernia of the abdominal wall that met the inclusion criteria in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University Digestive and Vascular Surgery Center from January 2015 to February 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and the surgery-related indexes including operation time, postoperative hospitalization time, total hospitalization cost, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative incisional infection, postoperative recurrence, postoperative hematoma, and surgery-related complications were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: A total of 50 cases of incisional hernia met the inclusion criteria, including 18 cases with the hybridization procedure and 32 cases with the Sublay procedure. There was no statistically significant difference between the general data of the two groups(P>0.05).The differences in the incidence of postoperative incisional infection, postoperative seroma, intraoperative bowel injury, postoperative intestinal obstruction, and postoperative intestinal fistula between the two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).The postoperative recurrence rate of the Sublay group was higher than that of the hybrid group, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Both hybridization and Sublay surgery are safe and effective in the treatment of incisional hernia of the abdominal wall. The hybridization procedure is highly invasive and costly, but is less likely to recur after surgery, whereas the Sublay procedure is less intrusive to the abdominal viscera, has faster postoperative recovery, and has lower total treatment costs, but has a higher recurrence rate.A detailed assessment of the patient’s condition should be made before surgery to develop an individualized treatment plan and select an appropriate surgical approach in order to improve the success rate of surgery and reduce the recurrence rate.
