Objectives: To describe maternal childbirth experience status among different mode of delivery and determine related influencing factors. Methods: The research was a mixed study design.(1)In the quantitative research, convenient sampling was used to recruit women within 7 days after delivery from September 2021 to December 2021.General data questionnaire, the Wijma delivery experience questionnaire(W-DEQ),general well-being schedule(GWB),sense of coherence scale(SOC-13),postpartum women’s expectation of participation in medical decision-making scale(PWEPMDS),and multidimensional scale of perceived social support(MSPSS)were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 548 puerpera in different modes of delivery. All data were independently double-entered and validated using Epi Data 3.0.Data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0.A two-tailed p-value <0.05 was considered significant.Descriptive statistics were used to examine the sociodemographic data and obstetric data, including means and standard deviations(mean ± SD)for continuous variables and counts(percentages)for categorical variables. The chi-square test was used for measurement of the categorical variables to assess the statistical significance among the groups and the independent samples t-test was used for continuous variables.Pearson correlation analysis was used to describe the correlation among the scores of the Wijma delivery experience questionnaire and general well-being schedule and each dimension.A binary logistic regression model was used to examine the multivariate factors.(2)In the qualitative research, purposive sampling and descriptive phenomenological method was used.Eighteen women within 7 days after delivery were interviewed using a semi-structured syllabus and interviews were recorded during December 2021.All data were entered and transcribed with Microsoft Excel 2010 and Microsoft Word 2010.The traditional content analysis method was used to encode and analyze, and refine the theme with the help of Nvivo 10.0.Results: The average score of maternal childbirth experience was(75.98±20.87)in nature birth puerpera and(70.82±18.24)in the cesarean section puerpera. The difference in average score of maternal childbirth experience was statistically significant(t=3.067,p =0.002).There were71.2% women in natural birth with positive childbirth experience,while80.0% in caesarean section. The difference of materbal childbirth experience among different delivery modes was statistically significant(χ2=5.725,p= 0.017).The average score of SWB was(87.45±11.47)in nature birth puerpera and(85.77±11.28)in the cesarean section puerpera. The difference in average score of SWB was statistically significant(t=1.732,p =0.084).There was a negative correlation between maternal childbirth experience score and subjective well-being score(r =-0.148,P< 0.01).Results from binary Logistic regression model showed that women in nature birth were more likely to have a positive childbirth experience with no significant expectation of the newborn’s sex[OR(95%CI)=0.318(0.145-0.699),p=0.004)] and a higher level of social support [OR(95%CI)=0.969(0.944-0.995),p=0.018],while women in nature birth were more likely to have a negative childbirth experience with per capita monthly income of 8000-9000 yuan [OR(95%CI)=4.413(1.448-13.454)),p =0.009].In the caesarean section, women were more likely to have a positive childbirth experience living in urban areas[OR(95%CI)= 0.134(0.043-0.418)),P =0.001] and with a higher level of social support [OR(95%CI)= 0.963(0.935-0.993),P =0.016].The interview contents were extracted and analyzed, and finally five topics were concluded: emotional experience related to childbirth, intense childbirth-related pain, social support in need of improvement, the impact of the delivery environment, fetal health and mother-infant interaction.Conclusion:(1)The level of maternal delivery experience needs to be improved.Women with different delivery methods showed different delivery experience: Compared with women in natural birth, women in the caesarean section showed a higher level of childbirth experience and were more likely to show positive childbirth experience. The related factors varied with the delivery mode: women in nature birth were more likely to have a positive childbirth experience with no significant expectation of the newborn’s sex and a higher level of social support, while in the caesarean section, women were more likely to have a positive childbirth experience living in urban areas and with a higher level of social support.(2)More attention should be paid to puerpera’s childbirth experience:puerpera showed more negative emotional experience and less positive emotional experience before delivery.(3)Maternal subjective feelings of childbirth experience were affected by " intense childbirth-related pain","social support in need of improvement"," the impact of the delivery environment " and "fetal health and mother-infant interaction".
