Purpose:The aim of this article is to evaluate the feasibility and safety of Iodine-125seed(125I)brachytherapy for patients with unresectable or recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(i CCA).Materials and Methods:Between December 2013 and October 2020,we retrospectively analyzed data from 43 patients with unresectable or local-regional recurrent i CCA.Local progression-free survival(LTPFS)and local disease control rate(LDCR)were evaluated as primary endpoints. The second endpoint were overall survival(OS)and major complication rate after 125I brachytherapy. Results:Between December 2013 and October 2020,43 patients with 56 tumors met selection criteria and were included in this study. After a median follow-up of 12 months(range 4-12months),the LDCR at 1-,3-,6-,and 12 months were 100%,72.5%,48.8%,and 16.3%,respectively.The median LTPFS was 4.6 months(95%CI2.3-7.0months).The 3,6,and 12 OS rates were 100%,100%,93.0%and 53.5%,respectively.No treatment-related mortality occurred, and complications were minimal. Conclusions:For patients with unresectable or local-regional recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma,125I brachytherapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment and can provide long-term local control and increased survival.
