Suicide is a serious public health and social problem in the world, which is often caused by social crisis such as interpersonal or family conflict.Perceived unfairness may be closely related to suicide behaviors. The game experimental paradigm provides a good tool to explore the social decision-making performance with the theme of fairness in suicide individuals. Now,the research about the fair decision-making performance of clinical suicide population is still in infancy.Only few studies have found that suicide attempters as responders tend to refuse more unfair offers, and are not affected by the situation. There is no study about the social decision-making performance of suicide attempters as proposers.Previous studies have found that negative emotions induced by unfair offers are the main reason to refuse offers. As an effective emotion regulation strategy, cognitive reappraisal has been proved to reduce the anger emotion and corresponding retaliatory behaviors induced by unfair offers. However, there is no research about the influence of emotion regulation strategy on social decision-making performance in suicide attempters. Therefore, this study recruited suicide attempt group(n=33),psychiatric controls group(n=30)and healthy controls group(n=29).By combining with ERPs technology,we investigated the characteristic and neural mechanism of the fair decision-making performance in suicide attempters as responders and proposers in game tasks, and the influence of cognitive reappraisal strategy on the fair decision-making performance. The conclusions of this study are as follows.1.The number of distribution in suicide attempt group was close to the theoretical expectation of fair distribution. The fair decision-making performance of suicide attempters as proposers was similar to that of healthy controls.2.There was no significant difference in the acceptance rate of different offers among three groups. The fair decision-making performance of suicide attempters as responders was not damaged.3.Compared with the natural response condition, the acceptance rate of different offers in three groups was significantly improved after the application of the cognitive reappraisal strategy, and no significant difference was found among three groups.4.As responders, under the natural response condition, fair offers induced more N1 and FRN in suicide attempt group and psychiatric controls group.More automatic attention was allocated to fair offers, and the expectation for fair offers decreased.Unfair offers elicited larger LPP in psychiatric controls group, and they showed strong aversion and avoidance to unfair offers.5.After applying the cognitive reappraisal strategy, the differences of brain function among three groups caused by fair or unfair offers disappeared. The effect of cognitive reappraisal strategy on the brain function of suicide attempters was limited to the late reappraisal stage(LPP),relative to the healthy controls group and the psychiatric controls group. In summary, this study further deepens our understanding of the social decision-making performance with the theme of fairness as well as regulation mechanisms of suicide attempters, and suggests that the cognitive reappraisal strategy may provide a new intervention for the improvement of social function in suicide attempters. |
