ObjectivesThe research tried to develop the Respiratory Nurses’ Inhalation Therapy Guidance Capability Questionnaire, investigate the current status on inhalation therapy guidance capability among nurses in the respiratory department and explore its influencing factors.MethodsBased on the theoretical model of Knowledge Classification, referring to the Chinese Expert Consensus on Standard Application of Inhalation Device in Stable Chronic Airway Disease Patients, the entries and first draft of the questionnaire were determined through literature review and semi-structured interviews. Then the questionnaire was further revised through expert group discussion. Finally, the final draft questionnaire was formulated by pre-survey and reliability and validity tests.Using the convenient sampling method,a total of 962 nurses in the respiratory department were selected as research participants to investigate the current situation by the Respiratory Nurses’ Inhalation Therapy Guidance Capability Questionnaire, and then univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis were used to find out its influencing factorsResults1.Formation of Respiratory Nurses’ Inhalation Therapy Guidance Capability QuestionnaireThe Respiratory Nurses’ Inhalation Therapy Guidance Capability Questionnaire formed in this study mainly contained 2 dimensions and 35 items in total. The overall Cronbach’s a coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.903,the Cronbach’s a coefficients of the guiding knowledge and guiding skills were 0.769 and 0.964,respectively.And the half-reliability coefficients were 0.761 and 0.923,respectively.The I-CVI ranged from 0.83 to 1.00,the S-CVI was 0.857.In the structural validity analysis, the KMO value of each item was 0.917,Bartlett’s spherical test value was 7193.695,and P<0.001.A total of eight common factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 60.90%.All entries corresponded to factor loading values>0.4 by using the maximum variance rotation analysis.2.The current situation of inhalation therapy guidance capability among nurses in the respiratory department and its influencing factorsThe average scores on inhalation therapy guidance capability among respiratory nurses were(73.90±9.42),with average scores of(11.14±3.37)and(62.76±8.53)on guiding knowledge and guiding skills, respectively. The percentage of respiratory nurses with poor guiding knowledge was as high as 62.47%,and only 1.25%of respiratory nurses had an excellent level of guiding knowledge. While the proportion of respiratory nurses with poor guiding skills was 3.12%,and 65.70%of respiratory nurses had an excellent level of guiding skills. The results of univariate analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis showed that there were four variables influencing the inhalation therapy guidance capability among respiratory nurses, including education, hospital level, training method(academic lecture),and training method(simulation training).ConclusionsThe Respiratory Nurses’ Inhalation Therapy Guidance Capability Questionnaire developed in this study exhibited good reliability and validity, had good scientificity and practicality, and can be used to evaluate the current status on inhalation therapy guidance capability among nurses in the respiratory department.Respiratory nurses scored low in guiding knowledge of inhalation therapy guidance capability, and guiding skills were not yet comprehensive. Therefore there was an urgent need for nursing managers to develop training system-related inhalation therapy to improve the overall inhalation therapy guidance capability of respiratory nurses.
