| Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Baishen Tang,a traditional Chinese medicine formula,in rectal infusion for Radiation proctitis, and to investigate its effects on alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life of patients with Radiation proctitis. Methods:Between July 2019 and June 2022,88 patients with radiation proctitis who satisfied the diagnostic standards were gathered from our hospital’s Department of Oncology,Gastroenterology, and Colorectal Surgery.Using a randomized controlled technique, patients were split into two groups based on when they enrolled: a control group(44 cases)and a group that received traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)enema(44 cases).A rectal drip of 3g of montmorillonite powder and 2mg of dexamethasone sodium phosphate injection dissolved in 100 m L of 0.9% saline solution was administered to the control group. The Baishen Decoction(15g Coptis chinensis,10 g Sophora flavescens,15 g Isatis indigotica,10 g Paeonia lactiflora, and 12 g Polygonum bistorta)was administered to the TCM enema group twice daily. It was made using an automatic decoction machine. The two groups received treatment continuously for two courses, each lasting one week.Changes in both groups’ tenesmus,KPS score, rectal mucosal injury grading, frequency of bowel movements, mucous and bloody stools, stool consistency, stool routine(occult blood),thirsty or bitter mouth, liver and kidney function, and evaluation of safety indicators like blood routine and blood were noted.Comprehensive research was done to determine the effectiveness and safety of Baishen Decoction TCM enema treatment for radiation proctitis.Results:1.Symptom scores: Both groups showed improvement in symptom scores after treatment, but the improvement was more obvious in the TCM enema group than in the control group(P<0.05).2.Stool routine(occult blood): Both groups showed improvement in stool routine(occult blood)after treatment, and the TCM enema group was more effective in reducing bleeding(P<0.05).3.Effective Rates: The total effectiverate of the TCM enema group was90%,and that of the control group was 34.1%.The TCM enema group had a higher treatment efficiency than the control group(P<0.05).4.Rectal mucosal injury: Both groups showed improvement in rectal mucosal injury after treatment, and the improvement was more obvious in the TCM enema group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Retention enema of Baishen Tang has a significant effect on Radiation proctitis, and can significantly improve clinical symptoms.Conclusions:1.The rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction can effectively improve clinical symptoms of radiation proctitis, such as abdominal pain, changes in stool consistency, increased stool frequency, mucus and bloody stools, dry mouth, bitter taste, and tenesmus.2.The rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction and the combination of montmorillonite powder and dexamethasone enema can both alleviate gastrointestinal bleeding in patients with radiation proctitis, and have certain hemostatic effects.3.The rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction and the combination of montmorillonite powder and dexamethasone enema can both repair intestinal mucosa in patients with radiation proctitis, and the rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction has more significant therapeutic effects.4.The rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction can effectively improve the KPS score of patients and improve their quality of life.5.The rectal infusion of Baishen Decoction is safe and has no significant adverse reactions. |
