Objective:The expressions of Galectin-1 and 3 in serum and placental tissue of ICP patients were detected to explore the possible correlation with the development of ICP.At the same time, the correlation between Galectin-1,3 and pregnancy outcome and the severity of ICP is helpful for the progress of clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods:Forty ICP patients admitted to the obstetrics Department of North Jiangsu People’s Hospital from May 2021 to February 2022 were selected as the study group, including 25 pregnant women with mild ICP and 15 pregnant women with severe ICP,and 20 pregnant women with normal hospitalization in the same period in our hospital were selected as the control group. The differences of general data between the two groups were compared. The expression and clinical significance of galectin-1 and 3 in serum and placental tissues of ICP group and control group were studied by ELISA and IHC.Results:(1)The results of ELISA showed that serum galectin-1 and galectin-3 expression levels in ICP group were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.01)and had a significant positive correlation with disease severity(P<0.01).(2)The results of IHC showed that the expression levels of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in placental tissues of ICP group were higher than those of control group(P<0.05)and had a significant positive correlation with disease severity(P<0.01).(3)Correlation between galectin-1 and galectin-3 expression in the serum and placenta of pregnant women with ICP:The expression of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in serum of ICP women was significantly positively correlated(P<0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between the expression of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in placental tissues of ICP women(P<0.01).There was a positive correlation between serum and placental galectin-1 expression in ICP pregnant women(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between the serum of ICP pregnant women and the expression of galectin-3 in placenta(P<0.05).(4)Comparison of clinical outcomes between ICP and normal pregnancy:The results showed that compared with control group,ICP group had smaller gestational age and lower fetal birth weight(all P<0.05),and the difference between severe ICP group and mild ICP group was statistically significant(P<0.05).The incidence of premature birth, low neonatal weight, fetal distress, fecal amniotic fluid staining, cesarean section and neonatal transfer in ICP group was higher than that in control group(P<0.05),and the incidence of premature birth, low neonatal weight, cesarean section and neonatal transfer in severe ICP group was higher than that in mild ICP group(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in Apgar score<7 and incidence of postpartum hemorrhage between ICP group and control group(P>0.05).(5)The correlation between serum galectin-1 and 3 levels and various adverse pregnancy outcomes in ICP group:The results showed that serum galectin-1 and 3 levels in ICP patients were positively correlated with the incidence of premature delivery, low neonatal weight and neonatal transfer(P<0.05).Galectin-3 was positively correlated with fecal amniotic fluid staining, fetal distress and incidence of cesarean section(P<0.05),and negatively correlated with gestational week of delivery and birth weight of newborn(P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)The expressions of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in serum and placental tissues of ICP patients were significantly increased, and there was a significant positive correlation between the two and the severity of ICP disease, suggesting that the two may be involved in the occurrence and development of ICP.(2)ICP can lead to a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes in perinatal infants, and the serum levels of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in ICP patients are also associated with a variety of adverse pregnancy outcomes.Monitoring the two inflammatory indicators of galectin-1 and galectin-3 in ICP patients is helpful to observe the occurrence and development of the disease.
