Smoking is one of the most prominent public health problems in the world. It will cause a considerable proportion of incidence rate and mortality every year.In 2015,there were about 933.1 million smokers worldwide every day,and more than 6.4 million people died from diseases caused by smoking, accounting for 11.5% of the total deaths in the world. It is estimated that by 2030,the number of deaths caused by smoking in China will reach more than 2 million per year.In adolescence, the functions of the body are not fully developed, and the ability of self-control is weak,so it is easy to be affected by external factors. If effective measures are not implemented to reduce the high smoking rate, the harm of tobacco use to adolescent addicts will continue to increase. One third of one’s life is spent in sleep.Adequate sleep can not only ensure that the brain has sufficient development conditions, but also eliminate fatigue and alleviate anxiety. In previous PSG(polysomnogram)sleep experiments, sleep spindle wave was found.Spindle wave is an EEG mode, which is composed of rhythmic waves with a frequency of11-16 hz.The amplitude gradually increases and then decreases, with a duration of at least0.5 seconds. At the same time, sleep spindles are associated with memory consolidation, learning and related cortical plasticity. The changes of brain electrical signals of adolescent smokers during sleep can improve our understanding of adolescent smoking addiction. This study mainly studied the differences of spindle wave time-domain parameters between 16 adolescent smoking addicts and 16 healthy non-smokers in sleep, and reflected the differences of sleep in the form of self-report.We extracted and quantitatively analyzed the spindle wave of five electrode points(C3,F3,F4,O1 and O2).The PSG data of subjects were collected by sleep polysomnography, and four time-domain parameters of spindle wave were extracted, namely duration, maximum peak latency, frequency and amplitude. Our results showed that compared with non-smokers,the sleep spindle duration and peak latency of adolescent smokers were significantly higher than those of non-smokers at C3 electrode point(P < 0.05);At the O1 and O2 electrode points, the duration and peak latency of sleep spindle wave in adolescent smokers were higher than those in non-smokers(P < 0.05).The correlation analysis between sleep spindle time domain parameters with significant differences and various scales did not find a significant correlation between them.At the same time,PSQI(Pittsburgh sleep quality index),SRSS(self rating scale of sleep)and ISI(insomnia severity index)of smoking group and control group were compared.PSQI(P < 0.05),SRSS(P < 0.05)and ISI(P < 0.05)showed significant differences between groups. Our results reveal the decline of sleep quality in adolescent smoking addicts and improve our understanding of the interaction between smoking and sleep.
