Objective: To analyze the relationship and significance of Periostin(POSTN),Eosnophils(EOS),IL-4 and IL-13 in nasal secretions of allergic rhinitis(AR)patients. To investigate whether POSTN and EOS in nasal secretions of AR patients are correlated with the severity of symptoms. Methods: According to the diagnostic requirements of Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic rhinitis in 2015 Tianjin version,From August 2021 to January 2022,Fifty AR patients who received treatment in the Department of Otolaryngology of Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited as the experimental group.During the same period,Fifty healthy volunteers who underwent physical examination in Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited as the control group. The nasal secretions of the experimental group and the control group were collected, and EOS was counted after thin smear and Ray-Giemsa staining. The levels of POSTN,IL-4 and IL-13 in nasal secretion were determined by Enzyme-Linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).VAS scoring method was used to evaluate the sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching and nasal obstruction respectively, and the total score of Multi-VAS was obtained to indicate the severity of symptoms of patients. The differences of POSTN level,IL-4 level,IL-13 level and EOS count in nasal secretions of the two groups were analyzed, and the correlation between POSTN level and IL-4 level,IL-13 level,EOS count in nasal secretions of AR patients was analyzed. At the same time, the correlation between POSTN level,EOS count in nasal secretions of AR patients and multi-VAS scores was analyzed.SPSS 23.0 software was used for statistical analysis of all data. Results: 1.POSTN,IL-4 and IL-13 could be detected in nasal secretions of both the experimental group and the control group, and the levels of POSTN,IL-4 and IL-13 in nasal secretions of the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P < 0.05).2.EOS could be observed in all nasal secretions of the experimental group, and only a very small amount of EOS could be observed in the nasal secretions of the control group. The number of EOS in nasal secretions of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P < 0.05).3.POSTN level in nasal secretions of the experimental group was positively correlated with EOS count,IL-4 level and IL-13 level(P < 0.05);4.POSTN level and EOS count in nasal secretions of the experimental group were positively correlated with the total score of multi-VAS(P < 0.05).Conclusion: 1.Compared with healthy people,POSTN level,IL-4 level,IL-13 level and EOS count in nasal secretions of AR patients were significantly increased.2.In the course of AR,POSTN may play a positive role in the expression of IL-4 and IL-13 and the increase of EOS recruitment in the lesion region.3.POSTN level and EOS count in nasal secretions of AR patients may be used to assist in analyzing the severity of symptoms of AR patients.
