Dermatosis in dogs and cats are common clinical diseases, which are difficult to diagnose, long treatment cycle, and easy to relapse. In this study,we investigated the prevalence of skin diseases in dogs and cats admitted to animal hospitals in some areas of Hebei Province, and established skin disease animal models based on the survey results to clarify the therapeutic effects of compound licorice on skin diseases in dogs and cats, and to provide a basis for the development of traditional Chinese medicine preparations for the treatment of skin diseases.1.Epidemiological survey of skin diseases in dogs and cats in some areas of Hebei Province.A total of 175 cases of skin diseases in dogs and cats treated from March 2021to May 2022 were investigated. There were 95 cases in dogs and 80 cases in cats.Males accounted for 59%.104 cases were under 2 years old, accounting for 58%;The skin diseases of dogs and cats mostly occurred from April to August.Bacterial skin disease in dogs and cats accounted for 54%,and the main manifestations were hair removal, rash, abscess, and crusting.2.Establishment of animal models of bacterial skin diseases.Subcutaneous injection of 0.1 m L 1×10~9CFU/m L Staphylococcus aureus on the back of mice caused skin ulceration, rash, abscess and scab. The skin lesion score was 2.5 at 72 hours after modeling, and the skin lesion area was higher than 0.9 cm~2within 24-120 hours after modeling.A mouse model of skin infection can be successfully established by subcutaneous injection of 0.1 m L 1×10~9CFU/m L Staphylococcus aureus.3.Therapeutic effect of common clinical drugs on mouse skin infection model. After treatment, the lesion area of group A(chlorvivir+lysin group)decreased from0.86 cm~2on the first day of treatment to 0.35 cm~2;The serum Ig E level was significantly lower than that in group M(model group)(p<0.01).HE staining showed no obvious pathological changes, and the number of mast cells in group M was significantly lower than that in group M(p<0.01).4.The effect of compound licorice on mouse skin infection model and its therapeutic effect on skin diseases in dogs and cats. After 11 days of treatment in the mouse infection model, the skin lesion scores of group A(gracivir+Bysticin group)and group C(compound licorice+Gracivir group)decreased most significantly. The lesion area decreased most significantly and the serum Ig E level was significantly lower than that of M group(p<0.01).The level of IL-4 in group C was the lowest, and there was no significant difference with the control group. The level of IL-6 in group C was significantly lower than that in group M(p<0.01).Histological examination showed that the infiltration of inflammatory cells in group A and group B(compound licorice group)was significantly reduced. The number of mast cells in group A,group B and group C was significantly lower than that in group M(p<0.01).In dogs and cats with skin diseases treated with compound licorice, the curative effect of papules, erythema, crusting and hair removal was 100%,75%,65%and 54%,respectively.In conclusion, compound licorice combined with porliwei has a better therapeutic effect on the mouse skin infection model than other groups, and compound licorice can improve the symptoms of skin diseases in dogs and cats.
