| Arable land ecological security is a fundamental component of national and regional ecological security, encompassing both the sustainability of arable land resources and its ability to provide ecological services and security for human society.Guangdong Province has been at the forefront of economic development since its reform and opening up,and with the increase in urbanisation, the conflict between economic development and arable land conservation has become more prominent. This paper aims to explore the development of arable land and the changes in the level of arable land ecological safety in Guangdong Province, with a view to enhancing public enthusiasm for arable land conservation and enabling government departments to better understand the development of arable land ecological safety in the region in recent years,so as to implement more effective policies to promote the harmonious development of economy and arable land ecological safety.Based on a review of domestic and international research on the ecological safety of arable land, this paper presents a more comprehensive analysis of the current situation of arable land development in Guangdong Province by incorporating agricultural production into the traditional complex system,i.e.the natural-social-economic system, and concludes that during the period 2010-2019,the ecological safety of arable land in Guangdong Province is mainly faced with the following problems: firstly,it is difficult for the ageing rural population in the province to carry out agricultural production that matches the productivity level of arable land and part-time work.Firstly, the ageing rural population in Guangdong Province has difficulty in carrying out agricultural production commensurate with the productivity level of its arable land, and the increase in part-time employment has caused more rural people to go out to work, resulting in a rapid loss of agricultural workers and a rapid decline in the number of rural people;secondly, while arable land in Guangdong Province is tight and the conflict between people and land is prominent, the inefficient use of chemical inputs such as pesticides and fertilisers has also had a serious negative impact on the arable land environment;thirdly, under the combined influence of the geographical environment and regional development issues, the Guangdong Province’s agricultural mechanisation level has been slow to improve. This paper, guided by theories of sustainable development and the relationship between people and land, combines the research results of relevant scholars and field research on the development of arable land in Guangdong Province, and constructs an evaluation system for the ecological safety level of arable land in Guangdong Province based on the DPSIR model, and uses the evaluation model constructed by the TOPSIS method to evaluate the ecological safety level of arable land in Guangdong Province from 2010 to2019.The study shows that the level of ecological safety of cropland in Guangdong Province generally shows a development trend of first decreasing and then increasing, with its relative proximity C value decreasing from 0.470 in 2010 to 0.269 in 2012,and then increasing to0.562 in 2019.The level of the state subsystem was relatively stable in the early stage of the study;the level of the impact subsystem showed a stable increase and a more obvious increase;and the response subsystem showed a fluctuating increase.Further analysis of the coupling coordination degree of the ecological safety of Guangdong’s farmland shows that the coordination degree among the subsystems of the ecological safety of Guangdong’s farmland shows an upward trend of fluctuation, and the coupling coordination degree changes from moderate disorder to high quality coordination. Finally, based on the results of the empirical analysis, this paper puts forward targeted countermeasure suggestions such as enhancing the stability of arable land ecosystems and protecting the ecological security of arable land;strengthening the quality management of arable land and establishing a monitoring system for arable land ecological security;coordinating the relationship between people and arable land and promoting the intensive development of arable land;and changing the agricultural development model to effectively promote the enhancement of land power. |
