Before the 19th century,Space was regarded as a fixed,non-dialectical and static thing,and its research value has been seriously ignored.Until Lefebvre put forward the concept of "space production" in The Production of Space,he believed that space production led to the change of material form and meaning representation.His space theory not only explains the importance of physical space,but also promotes the rethinking of space-related issues by scholars in various disciplines.Among them,Innis pointed out the space-biased communication medium in The Bias of Communication,and then There has been an obvious spatial turn in communicantion research.In the late 20th century,there was a wave of urban space communication research around the world.The mixed space formed by the combination of the material space composed of buildings and highways and the symbolic meaning space has become an important medium of urban communication.As a representative urban space,urban landmarks are an important dimension of urban communication research.Through symbolic production,it fully demonstrates the city's personality,cultural heritage,historical changes,and social relations,and has significant research value.This article selects Chaotianmen,which has a history of several thousand years,as the research object.Through historical investigation,it analyzes the spatial structure of the five stages of feudal rule,modern development,modern urban construction,early marketization,and commercial landmark period.It discusses the special role of urban landmarks in spatial communication,and conduct cultural criticism and reflection from the perspective of spatial production and social relations.And focus on the following issues: 1.The significance of landmarks for urban communication 2.The changes in the construction of Chaotianmen's spatial meaning 3.The relationship between the changes in the production of Chaotianmen's spatial meaning and social and cultural changes 4.Through the study of this relationships,carry out cultural criticism and reflection on urban space production,and propose strategies for landmark space production.Through research,it found that landmarks can express the connotation of the city's temperament,development changes,and social relations.Under the background of new globalization and modernization,the unified spatial production mode and symbol manipulation behavior have led to the gradual separation of landmark spaces from geotraditions,and the weakening of cultural inheritance functions.Urban space has become the result of social relations and power actions.Its production order is not objectively neutral.There are multiple forces manipulation based on the struggle for interests behind it,which leads to the alienation of urban space production.In the context of digital technology changes and rapid social mediation,we hope that urban space production can get rid of the pursuit of a single technical function,and pay more attention to the history,integrity and cultural significance of the space,so that urban landmarks can truly become a symbol of urban image.The carrier of serving the public's diverse life and value pursuit.
