China has always been an active advocate of poverty reduction in the world,a faithful practitioner and a powerful promoter of international human rights.Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,China's poverty reduction work has been pushed forward with unprecedented strength, which has made great contributions to the world's poverty reduction cause. While China's poverty reduction cause has made great achievements, poverty reduction publicity has also become an important work. However,in the international public opinion market, the western countries represented by the United States still hold the right of international discourse, and to a certain extent, dominate the international public opinion. To fully understand and understand the reports of these western countries on our poverty reduction cause is helpful for China to do a good job in the external publicity work of poverty reduction. This paper takes the Washington Post, one of the most influential mainstream media in the United States,as sample source to analyze all the reports about China's poverty reduction from the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to the end of 2019,so as to analyze the reporting characteristics of the mainstream media in the United States on China's poverty reduction issues, and how the mainstream media in the United States recognize, judge and evaluate China's poverty reduction work.Through the analysis, this paper finds that the mainstream media in the United States, represented by the Washington Post, pay more and more attention to China's poverty reduction, but the attention is very limited;they tend to place China's poverty reduction in the reports of "China's domestic society","China's domestic economy" and "international trade";the overall news is relatively negative;the source of the news is mainly the comments and data of the authoritative subjects in the United States;most of the news reports are in response to the negative emotions of the articles. From the perspective of the micro structure of news discourse, this paper finds that in terms of vocabulary,American mainstream media are good at using some exaggerated and fuzzy words to describe China's poverty reduction achievements and policies;in terms of syntax,a large number of news sentences with complex structure and multiple implied meanings are used, which is easy for readers to misread China's poverty reduction policies;in terms of semantics, through the semantic No The consistency has achieved the reporting effect of ostensibly affirming China's poverty reduction, but actually denying it.In addition, from the macro structure and super(schema)structure of news discourse,China's poverty reduction does not often appear as a high-level or abstract proposition, but as a lower level specific proposition, and because of the overall negativity of news proposition group,it highlights the negative characteristics.Through the analysis, this paper finds that the mainstream media in the United States wants to negate China's poverty reduction achievements by questioning China's economic and social work.In many articles,American mainstream media simply attribute China's poverty reduction achievements to development of international trade.Generally speaking, the main media Washington Post of the United States pays less attention to China's poverty reduction, and its understanding of China's poverty reduction deviates greatly from China's reality of poverty reduction;the post's overall attitude towards China's poverty reduction report is ostensibly positive, but in fact it questions;the post's overall logic for China's poverty reduction report is to use if The main skills of the Washington Post's report on China's poverty reduction are to use the source of information, the layout of the report and the choice of words to foil the negative emotion.
