The Times,as a foreign media that entered China earlier, has a wide range of concerns.News reports are favored by elites in the British society. The Times' response to public opinion can also be regarded as the attitude of the British society to domestic and international affairs. And views. The period from 1909 to 1919 played an important role in modern China.During this period,China experienced a series of major political changes, economic and cultural changes such as the New Deal and the 1911 Revolution and the New Cultural Movement in the late Qing Dynasty.Although these changes did not fundamentally change the social nature of China's semi-colonial and semi-feudal society,China, still suffering from imperialist economic aggression, has seen some new signs. This study will use the Times's China-related economic reports from 1909 to 1919 to explore the UK's position on China during this period and analyze its influencing factors. On this basis,it will draw conclusions and reflections. This article is divided into six chapters. The first chapter introduces the four parts of research origin, research objectives, literature review and research methods. The second chapter introduces the general situation of "The Times",the panoramic view of China's economy from the perspective of "The Times" and the changes of"Times"'s depiction of China's economy during this period.During this period,"Times"has changed China's macro-economy,and believes that China's regional economy is developing under the influence of economic and political reforms at that time. The third chapter discusses the issue of China's economic sovereignty from the perspective of the "Times".The "Times" mainly reports on the railway sovereignty, salt tax and mineral rights, economic sector personnel changes, and financial and financial conditions in China's economic sovereignty. The Times believes that China should strengthen cooperation with major powers, especially the United Kingdom,on the railway, but it advocates that China should use the "road to debt" model for railway construction cooperation in order to obtain railway rights from China. The newspaper also praised the Yuan Shikai government's employment of the British as the chief inspector of China's salt tax.At the same time,in terms of finance and finance, the Times'description is more true, and it also expressed concern about China's financial situation during the periodThe fourth chapter discusses the Sino-foreign trade relations in the period from the perspective of "The Times",which mainly involves the four countries of the United Kingdom,Japan,Germany and the United States. For the UK,the Times' view is that China and the UK should strengthen cooperation, which is a "win-win" for both China and the UK.In the report to other powers, the Times reported differently.Regarding Japan's trade relations with China, the United Kingdom believes that Japan has helped Russia to contain Russia in the Far East, but Japan has obtained many conveniences from China. Will affect the interests of the United Kingdom. In terms of trade relations between Germany and China, the United Kingdom disagreed, saying that Germany's occupation of Shandong in China hindered the further development of British forces in southern China. Finally, the United States. The Times expressed concern about the violation of the open door policy originally proposed by the United States, but hoped to take a slice of the trade agreement between the United States and China. In general, the Times' report on Sino-foreign trade relations is dominated by Far East values that focus on British interests in China. For the trade relations between China and other countries,British interests are used as the value judgment standardThe fifth chapter discusses the influencing factors of "The Times" reporting on China in the late Qing and early Republic of China. This article considers the international political environment of China at that time and the interests of the United Kingdom in China at that time, the role of "The Times" and its Far East values and international The news communication ecology and production mechanism jointly influenced the China-related economic reports of the Times in this period. At the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, the great powers completed the industrial revolution and realized modernization, and the international political situation began to show a multi-polar situation.Since the signing of the Chinese Treaty of Xin Chou, the powers have stepped up their economic aggression against China. The Times has also begun to participate in political affairs, and its Far East values dominated by interests in China have also affected the reporting of this period. In addition to the emergence of full-time reporters of the Times in China and the improvement of the Chinese telegraph business,"The Times" hindered the production of news in China.Eventually, the Times's news coverage reached a small peak during that period.Chapter 6 of this article is a conclusion and reflection. This chapter believes that:The China-related economic reports of the Times in this period tried to use public opinion to safeguard the interests of Britain in China, reflecting the basic position of Britain towards China. In addition to this, the Times' report also affected the formulation and implementation of the UK's China policy at that time and its follow-up During the period, the policy of China led by British interests tended to ally with Japan to fight against Russia, and it also supported China The appeals at the Paris Peace Conference suppressed German interests in China, but as China's domestic situation changed, the development of the National Revolution was in conflict with British interests in China, and the British policy on China began to change. The Times'China-related economic reports during this period also had certain limitations. They simply safeguarded the interests of the United Kingdom and did not have enough understanding of the political and economic games of the Far East countries. There were certain misunderstandings in the reports and judgments made.Overall, the description of China's economy by the Times's China-related economic reports from 1909 to 1919 was a gradual and positive process, which was in line with the international situation at that time, the domestic situation in China, and the Times and the United Kingdom. The values held by the parties are inseparable. Finally, there are some innovations and shortcomings in this study. This paper summarizes the relatively objective research conclusions based on the relevant Shihua Economic Report of the Times in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
