In the constantly changing market today,the flat organization structure has gained popularity among small-and medium-sized enterprises.The advantages of the flat structure are included as below: The fewer levels ensure that information travels faster with lower possibility of distortion.The subordinates are more likely to be initiative and creative.The management cost is low.At the same time,it may lead to the situation that the larger management scope has increased the difficulty of management and the subordinates have lower chance of promotion.For a company with relatively fixed business scale,the disadvantages of being a flat organization will not be serious.However,for a company during its rapid development period,its flat structure may bring detrimental effect on the development of an increasing number of employees.Hence,it is important to study how enterprises during their rapid development period should make a path for staff promotion,training,and retainment,in order to facilitate the business development of the company.In this article,the staff from sales department of company P were selected as subjects.We focused on staff's actual problems related to career development.The research methodology of this article includes literature review,survey,interview,etc.Based on comprehensive analysis,it is concluded that most problems are caused by problematic promotion channels and incentive mechanisms.The topic is analyzed using flat organization structure,content-motivation theory and career development theory.New promotion channels,with responding incentives and proper authorization,are proposed.These findings contribute to the systematic analysis for career development channels of sales staff in rapidly developing companies(characterized by quickly growing staff and management complexity)with flat structure.In conclusion,this study is an application of relevant theories in human resource management and organizational behavior.The proposed solution could solve the practical problem of Company P.It is also a good reference for similar enterprises or organizations.
