The High School Geography Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)is another systematic theoretical guidance for high school geography following the High School Geography Curriculum Standards(Experimental)for more than a decade.At the same time,the high school geography textbooks have been updated accordingly.In this paper,we systematically compare the new and experimental versions(hereinafter referred to as Compulsory I and Compulsory II,respectively)of high school Geography Compulsory I and Geography Compulsory II(hereinafter referred to as Compulsory I and Compulsory II,respectively)Published by Hunan Education Publishing House,analyze them in terms of content structure,image system and homework activity system,and investigate the practical effects of the new textbooks in use to understand the latest quality requirements of geography subjects for students.The study also investigated the practical effects of the new textbooks in use,to understand the latest quality requirements of geography for students and the trend of geography textbook development,and to help geography teachers accurately grasp geography textbooks while providing some teaching suggestions.The study found that both the new and experimental versions of geography textbooks reflect the requirements of the corresponding curriculum standards to varying degrees,but the new version corresponds more strictly to the curriculum standards.The new textbook is more concise in its presentation but richer in its content,which precisely corresponds to the knowledge to be learned and the required geography core literacy.The new version of the textbook published by Hunan Education Publishing House is streamlined and optimized by removing the "Bilingual Learning" section and adding the "Inquiry" section.Some of the content has been deleted,while the presentation and order of some knowledge has been adjusted.Compulsory 1 reflects the new features of precision,inspiration,articulation and thematic clarity in the content structure,while Compulsory 2highlights the new concepts of modernity,inheritance and life.The names of images in the image system are more appropriate to the theme of the images,the selection of geographic images has a higher relevance to life,the improvement of image quality makes the maps more readable,and the scientific nature of geographic images is obviously enhanced;geographic photos occupy a larger proportion in both textbooks,and the proportion and changes of maps and statistical charts are small.Schematic diagrams decline substantially in Compulsory 1,but the proportion in Compulsory 2 increases slightly.The structure of the question types in the assignment activity system is optimized,with more emphasis on the analysis of practical problems;the number of activities is streamlined and the distribution of the number tends to be balanced;the proportion of questions in the activity system is reduced,while the selection of materials for the activities and the setting of questions are more comprehensive and the presentation of questions is more specific.Geography teachers play a crucial role in the efficient use of teaching materials,and the following suggestions are made for geography teachers.First,teachers need to strengthen their research on new standards and "secondary processing" of teaching materials;second,innovate teaching concepts and teaching methods;and third,strengthen students' use of image systems in teaching,and apply and innovate activity assignments.On the basis of the analysis of the experimental and new version of the textbook published by Hunan Education Publishing House,combined with their own learning experience and relevant learning theories,the geography teachers in the position of guidance indicate the direction of change in thinking and behavior,in order to pursue the geography textbook in the geography learning to play the optimal effect.
