Health risk communication is one of the important links in contemporary public health management. The National Health Commission and WHO officially promulgated the "Guidelines for Risk Communication of Public Health Events" in 2011 and 2018,respectively.Successful health risk communication depends on the public’s recognition and understanding of scientific data and medical principles defined by experts, but the public’s judgment on health risks comes from their daily beliefs in life and life and property. This gap in understanding may cause certain cognition.obstacle.Internationally,health risk communication often uses pictures and texts to explain the pros and cons of health risk precursors, magnitudes, consequences, and protective measures.Information graphics have been proven to be a recognized and effective means of communication.Based on this, this thesis adopts a user-centered design approach to design empirical information graphic for legibility and usability.Specific methods include user interviews and questionnaires, case studies and user evaluations, information and visual design, visual cognitive experiments, usability testing and design iterations. The content framework of this thesis is as follows: First, based on literature research, analyze the relevant theories of visual communication of health risks, summarize and extract design intervention categories and criteria that conform to visual information and audience cognition.Secondly, the existing design cases are analyzed and studied, and the visual cognition experiment test is carried out on the cases to identify the participants’ perception of the content of the existing cases, and to discuss the existing design patterns and application elements. Then, information graphic design based on theories, cases, and user needs, conduct usability testing and evaluation, and ensure that the designed information graphic design can be effectively understood. Finally, optimization design testing and evaluation are performed again to validate the final information graphic design. This thesis shows that the comprehension and accessibility of health graphics can be significantly improved by applying the principles of information design and user-participatory validation of the design.Research proves that user-centered health information design provides a low-cost,collaborative research strategy that provides design-based practical ideas on how to effectively communicate risk information to audiences.Although this study focused on a specific risk type, these findings also provide implications and lessons for other types of health communication or general health risk communication.
