Objective:The aim of this study is to observe the clinical efficacy and evaluate the safety of modified xiaochaihu decoction on nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy(syndrome of disharmony between liver and stomach)in patients with ovarian cancer, and to provide new methods and ideas for the prevention and treatment of toxic side effects of chemotherapy by combining Chinese and Western medicine.Methods:Sixty-two eligible cases were randomly assigned to 31 cases each in the control group(antiemetic with azelstrom, dexamethasone and aripitant)and the treatment group(the same control medication combined with modified xiaochaihu decoction). The observation period was 5 days, and the baseline data such as age and stage, the graded degree of nausea, vomiting and appetite on days 1-5 of chemotherapy, the safety indexes such as TCM evidence score,KPS score and blood routine, liver and kidney function before and after treatment were observed and recorded in both groups.spss26.0 was used for statistical processing to analyze the efficacy.Results:1.The incidence of nausea in the treatment group was 63.33%and 76,67%in the control group;the incidence of vomiting in the treatment group was 36.67%and 53.33%in the control group(P>0.05).The severity of nausea and vomiting gradation in the two groups on days 1-5 was lower in the treatment group than in the control group, and the P value was close to 0.05 on days 4 and 5,suggesting that modified xiaochaihu decoction could reduce the probability and degree of positive events of CINV,but there was no significant difference with the control group.2.Appetite maintenance is better in the treatment group than in the control group on days 1-5,with P>0.05 on day 1 and P<0.05 on days 2-5,suggesting that the modified xiaochaihu decoction is significant in maintaining the patients’ appetite.3.Within-group comparison of TCM syndromes:the treatment group and the control group showed a decrease in TCM main symptoms, secondary symptoms, and total syndromes, and the difference between the treatment group and the control group was statistically significant(P<0.05),and the control group showed a statistical difference only in the main symptoms and total syndromes(P<0.05),suggesting that both groups could alleviate the TCM syndromes, and the control group did not significantly improve the TCM secondary symptoms of depression, anorexia, and hiccup.Comparison between groups:The efficacy of the treatment group and the control group did not show significant differences for the TCM primary symptoms(P>0.05),but the efficacy of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group for the TCM secondary symptoms, the total score of the symptoms and the TCM symptoms(P<0.05).It is suggested that both groups can alleviate the TCM symptoms, and the modified xiaochaihu decoction has a unique advantage on depression, anorexia, and hiccup.4.The difference in the efficacy of the two groups on KPS scores was statistically significant(P<0.05),suggesting an improvement in physical status with modified xiaochaihu decoction. Conclusion:Modified Xiaochaihu Decoction has a tendency to reduce the incidence and severity of CINV in ovarian cancer, which can effectively maintain the appetite of patients during chemotherapy, alleviate TCM symptoms, especially emotional depression, anorexia and hiccup symptoms, and improve the physical condition of patients.
