A Study On The Causes Of Depression And Case Work Intervention Of Hospice Patient Caregivers

With the increase in the incidence and mortality of cancer in my country,this disease has become a major obstacle that threatens the extension of life expectancy of Chinese residents.While the terminal cancer has a negative impact on the hospice patients,it also greatly affects their caregivers.This group is often in a state of physical and mental exhaustion,and is prone to negative emotions such as depression and anxiety.Physical and mental health will be severely affected.However,the domestic academic circles generally lack attention to hospice patient caregivers,and their needs have not been effectively met to a large extent.In order to study the causes of depression of hospice patient caregivers and alleviate them,hospice patient caregivers from C community hospital in Shanghai were selected as the research objects in this study.The case work method was used to help hospice patient caregivers relieve depression.On the basis of combing the relevant literature,the author first used the self-rating depression scale(SDS)to measure the depression level of the caregivers of 24 hospice patients.The measurement results showed that 42% of the caregivers were depressive,among which 30% were mildly depressive,8% were moderately depressive,and 4% were severely depressive.Then semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 hospice patient caregivers whose test scores reached the level of depression to analyze the causes of depression.The results showed that the inducements of depression were poor physical condition,heavy burden of care,lack of social communication,cognitive bias,and fear of death of relatives.Finally,two caregivers were selected to carry out case intervention under the guidance of rational emotion therapy.Through the effect evaluation of the case work of hospice patient caregivers,it proved that the case is effective in correcting biased cognition and alleviating depression of hospice patient caregivers.Finally,the whole research was reflected,and the suggestions for such group case intervention were summarized: improve the medical team’s recognition and cooperation with social workers,strengthen the education and training of medical social workers,and give full play to the linkage between social workers and the client’s informal support system.
